Kids can make a model robot. This involves cutting paper, glueing things together, and bending pipes. This craft is fun and easy to do.Even if you don't get a perfect looking robot the first time, you will be able to build on it with future paper robot crafts. You can make a paper robot in no time.
Step 1: Pick up your supplies.
You will need a plain white card stock, sheets of different colored construction paper, and some spray paint.Super glue, tape, a ruler, and scissors are needed to build your robot. You can add different colored pipe cleaners, buttons, and beads to your robot.
Step 2: Four squares were drawn.
First, you need to find paper which is thick. The cube's dimensions are 2 X2X2 inches.Draw a 2X2 square on the paper using a ruler. You can use a protractor to check the angles. You will have to draw three more squares after you have drawn the first one.Next to the first square will be the next three. The line from the previous square will be used for each new square.Continue until you have four squares that are connected together. There are four connected squares, a total of 2X8 inches, and three visible pencil lines.
Step 3: There are two more squares to connect.
The last two squares are on the same piece of paper.Place a square on each side of the rectangular shape. You should have something that looks like a cross.
Step 4: The cube needs to be cut out.
Cut around the outside edges of the cross with scissors.Don't cut on the pencil marks. The excess paper should be thrown away after you cut out the cross.
Step 5: The edges of the cube should be joined together.
You can use either glue or tape. There are three squares at the top of the cross. The top of the cross should be folded over. You should now have a cube.Use small pieces of tape or glue to join the edges. If you use glue, make sure you hold the edges together for at least 30 seconds.
Step 6: Make a small object out of paper.
This is the same as the normal cube. The dimensions are the same.Take a 2X4 inch piece of paper. On the long side, draw a 4X8 rectangles. The lines of the two rectangles should connect.Draw a second 2X4 rectangle on top of that one.On top of that one, draw another 4X8 rectangle. You should have a 4X20 inch rectangle with three pencil marks at the end.The sides need to match up.The sides need to match up.The 4 inch sides need to match up when drawing the 4X8 rectangle above the 2X4 rectangle.Draw a 8X2 rectangle on both sides of the 4X8 rectangles. You should have something that looks like a cross at the end.
Step 7: Cut out the cross.
Cut the cross with a pair of scissors. Two 8X2 and one 2X4 are folded up.You end up with a rectangular cube if you fold up the other section. To secure the edges, use glue, or small tabs of tape.Hold the edges down for 30 seconds to make sure the glue dries.
Step 8: Wrap your boxes with tin foil.
You will need to buy spray paint if you want to paint your boxes. They should be taken outside so fumes don't build up.It's best to spray from about 1-2 feet away. You have to get all the sides and edges. Before you spray paint the other side, you can let one side dry.Remove large sheets of tin foil if you decide to wrap your boxes in it.Wrap both boxes with two long strips.Wrap around the smaller areas and edges by cutting out four smaller pieces.Either wrap the tin foil tightly around the cubes or glue them down with super glue.
Step 9: Attach the boxes together.
Put the cube on one of the 2X4 rectangles.Place the cube in the center.Press down on that cube with a good amount of glue.
Step 10: Cut out two strips of paper.
Darker colors work best, but you can choose any color you want. You need to cut out two strips that are 7 inches long.
Step 11: The two strips are folded.
This means that if you fold up the first 1/2 inch, the next half inch will be folded down, and so on.Do this until the strips are completely accordion folded.
Step 12: Attach the accordion to the body.
On both sides of the robot's body, place a small amount of glue below its head.Put the ends of your accordion folds against the glue. The glue can dry if they are held there for fifteen seconds.
Step 13: Cut out two pieces of construction paper.
The squares should be at least 4X4 inches. You are free to dispose of any excess construction paper after you have cut them out.The construction paper should be the same color as the arm accordion folds.
Step 14: The squares should be rolled.
Roll the squares in your hands like a cigar. You want to leave at least an inch or two.If you want the roll to stay in place, you have to place a small piece of tape on the overlap.
Step 15: Wrap the legs around the body.
Put glue around one of the ends of your roll.Do this to both legs.Press and hold them on the body. The legs should be the same distance from one another, and about 1/2 inch from the edges. The legs should be held there for 15 seconds to allow the glue to dry.
Step 16: Attach eyes to the robot's head.
Pick from a lot of buttons or small items you might want to use as eyes. It's possible that you want something shiny that matches the essence of a robot. You should glue the buttons onto the head if you want to use them as eyes. They should be placed on the front of the head, each about an inch from the sides.
Step 17: There are holes in the robot's head.
You can use a knife or scissors. This should be done on the top part of the head. The holes should be about an inch from the edges. The antennas won't hold if the holes are small.Cut the pipe cleaner in half. You can put one piece in one hole and the other in another. If they are receiving signals, bend them slightly.
Step 18: Take out the small paper squares.
These can be either 1/2 inch or 1 inch squares.Cut these out with scissors. You should use a lot of different colors.Glue them to the body. You have the option to do these in any order you want. The pieces should be pressed down for 15 seconds to allow the glue to dry.The squares represent the lights on the robot.
Step 19: Feet for your robot.
The circles are about 2 inches in diameter. If you have a hard time drawing a perfect circle, try to find a small circular object, like a compass or the end of a paper towel roll, and trace the edge of it.The legs and arms should be used in a different color.Place the robot on its back.Glue around the legs.Put the circles on the legs and hold them for 15 seconds. The glue will be able to dry.
Step 20: Make ears for your robot.
There are two beads in the same color. You can use gold or silver beads.Put a small amount of glue on your robot's head.Place a bead on each side.Hold them for 15 seconds to let the glue dry.
