At some point in their lives, everyone wants to be a pirate. No pirate costume is complete without a hat.You can make a pirate hat out of almost anything, including newspaper, poster board, and an old cowboy hat.You can use a bowl from your kitchen to make one.
Step 1: Look for a sheet of newspaper.
Spread the newspaper out on the flat surface by unfold it.Make sure you have enough room to work.A large pirate hat can be made with a solid sheet of newspaper. If you want a smaller hat, cut off about 4 inch from one of the edges.
Step 2: The paper should be folded in half.
Your hat is nice and even if the corners are not matched up.To make a good crease in your paper, run your finger along the fold.If you're working with kids, make sure you tell them to fold "hamburger" style.
Step 3: The corners need to be brought to the center.
Take the top right corner of the paper and make a triangle with it.You should do the same thing with the other corner. The vertical edges should be lined up in the middle of the paper.Try to keep the edges straight. It's good to have everything lined up the way you want it.If the triangles start to unfold, add some tape to them.
Step 4: The bottom of the paper should be folded up.
You should have a piece of paper that looks like a pirate hat, except for the two bottom flaps. To secure the bottom flap, tape it down to the triangles. The rest of the bottom flap should be turned over as well.
Step 5: You can add decorations to your hat.
Your pirate hat is almost done. The only thing left to do is decorate it.You can draw a skull or print one out and glue it on the hat.You can draw a skull and crossbones on a piece of poster board.Attach the design to your hat with glue.
Step 6: Your computer is assembled.
You will need the following items to make a pirate hat.
Step 7: A pirate hat template can be created or printed.
You can find a pirate hat template online or draw one of your own on the poster board. If you need to make more than one pirate hat, draw a stencil on a separate piece of poster board. When it comes to the shape of your pirate hat, you have some freedom if you're drawing your own template.
Step 8: The template can be copied onto the poster board.
Place your template on the poster board and trace the shape of the hat.The pirate hat shape can be made into two copies.
Step 9: Take out the pirate hat shapes.
It's important to make your cuts as clean as possible.Line your hat shapes up with each other when you've finished cutting them out.Make sure they are the same shape.
Step 10: A skull and crossbones design can be drawn on a piece of white paper.
Attach the design to your hat with glue.Markers are used to draw features on the skull and crossbones. If you're working with kids, try to get them to draw skulls. You can draw the skull and crossbones on the hat if you don't have any spare paper.
Step 11: The hat needs to be finished.
Attach the edges of the hat together. If you glue the edges of the hat together, you won't be able to wear it.Allow plenty of time for the glue to dry.
Step 12: You need to gather your supplies.
If you want to make a tri-corner pirate hat, you will need the following items.
Step 13: A band is needed for the bowl.
Cut a strip of paper about 2 inches wide that can wrap around the rim of the bowl with 2 to 3 inches extra so the strip overlaps itself. If you have to glue 2 smaller pieces of paper together, don't worry.
Step 14: Take the rest of your paper and cut it.
To make the top of the hat and the brim, you'll need enough paper to make two large cuts.Cut the first square to 16 inches and the second piece to 24 inches. You can add a leathery texture to your hat by soaking the paper in water.Take them out of the water and flatten them to let them dry.If you try this, be careful not to rip your paper.
Step 15: Put the cap in.
Place the bowl upside down on the table with the smaller squares on top.Carefully press the paper around the rim of the bowl to shape it.
Step 16: The band should be added.
To make the hat band, glue a strip of paper around the base of the bowl. You might have to use a lot of glue to secure the band to the bowl.
Step 17: The excess paper should be cut away.
Cut the excess paper beneath the hat band when the glue is dry. There is a bowl of the hat.The bowl should be slid over to the edge of the table to make cutting easier.Remove the bowl when you've cut away the excess paper.Put the cap on your head to see if it fits.If the cap is too large, crumple it and try to add another band. You have to start over with another bowl if the cap is too small.
Step 18: Prepare for a storm.
Take the larger piece of paper and draw a line down the center of the square.A mark can be made from the bottom of the paper. To form a triangle, draw diagonal lines from the mark down to the corners.Cut the triangle out after you've measured it.There is a mark on the side of each triangle. Two smaller triangles can be made by drawing a line to the opposite corner of the mark. The circle in the center of the triangle can be traced using the bowl as a guide. There are six small triangles in the center of the large triangle.Cut each of the six triangles in half by drawing three lines in the circle. The inner triangles are still attached to the paper. They should be folded upward until they look like a crown.
Step 19: Attach the cap to the head.
Attach the triangles to the cap with glue. You may have to use a lot of glue.If you make a mess, you won't be able to see it in the final product, as this is the inside of the cap.Allow the glue to dry before continuing.
Step 20: The corners of the brim should be rounded.
The points on the brim should be folded to the center of the hat.The base of the cap should be touched by each point's tip.Make a crease on each of the folds.Remove the straight edges from the corners. There should be three triangles on your head.Wrap the rounded corners around a pencil and roll them up to the base of the hat.The corner should stay slightly rolled when you remove the pencil. If you want to add more character to your hat, you can roll the tips of the corners.Roll the tips of your pencil in the opposite direction. At this point, you should be able to see the pirate hat coming together.
Step 21: The cap should be connected to the corners of the brim.
Wrap a twist tie around the end of the pencil and twist it a few times. There should be a loop and two ends. The pencil has a twist tie on it.Do it three times. If you want to make a hole through them, line up the brim a little higher than the cap.Go through the hole with your twist tie.The tip of the cap should be secured by flattening the two ends. This is for the other tips.
Step 22: You can decorate your cap.
You should now have a pirate hat.You can add a skull or some buttons. The rest of the hat is hidden, so you can decorate it.If you want to make your pirate hat more authentic, you can glue real buttons over the brim.
Step 23: You can find a hat at the thrift store.
There is a wide-brimmed cowboy hat.A dark color is navy or black. The color is up to you.If you want to make a pirate hat, go for it.A material that is flexible is what you should choose.Hats made of felt or velvet are good.
Step 24: The sides of the brim should be stapled to the crown at two sides.
The brim will be drawn up at the front and back.
Step 25: The hat should be decorated.
A skull and crossbones design can be found in the iron-on patches section of a craft store. You could make a skull out of an old t-shirt.If it's made from fabric, you should put the skull and crossbones design on the front of the hat.Follow the manufacturer's instructions for attaching the patch if you're using an iron on patch.
