You can make a Spiderman mask in a few hours.A hot glue gun is all that is needed.Start with a red face mask and a pair of large-frame sunglasses, then accent it to make it look authentic.
Step 1: A red spandex mask is required.
Morph masks are spandex face-masks.You can buy a full-body Morph suit if you want to make a Spiderman suit. You can find a plain red Morph Mask at a costume depot. It should cost 15 dollars.
Step 2: There are large-frame sunglasses for sale.
There are many different versions of Spiderman. Some Spiderman costumes feature dark eye-lenses, while others have bright, reflective eyes. You should buy a large pair of sunglasses that are bright or dark for your costume.Make sure the glasses have large eyes. When you go shopping, take some reference pictures of Spiderman with you, because each lens will become an eye on your mask. Many of the women's sunglasses styles feature larger lens.
Step 3: The tint on the window should be used for the eyes.
A sheet of silver or dark auto tint can be used for an alternative look. The material is flexible and will make for a similar effect as the sunglasses. If you ask an auto detailing shop if they have any scraps, you can cut them into the shape of the eyes. They should be able to help you out because you won't need a lot.
Step 4: Purchase a black Sharpie, black fabric paint or puff paint.
You have to choose between black Sharpie or black fabric paint to create the "web" pattern on Spiderman's mask. This is dependent on your aesthetic preference. Both Sharpie and fabric paint can create raised, textured lines.Regardless of which marker type you choose, you may have to hand-wash your mask. They can be damaged by machine washing.
Step 5: There is a hot glue gun.
Inexpensive hot glue guns can be found in many craft stores.Pick one up or use one that you already own.You don't want to run out in the middle of your project if you have plenty of glue sticks.
Step 6: Place your mask on the floor.
The table or desk is a good place to put the spandex mask.If you want to draw the eyes on the mask, make sure you lay it with the front facing up.If you have a styrofoam head, you can use this as well.It will allow you to see your mask on your own head.
Step 7: Take a picture of the eyes.
Draw out the size and shape of the eyes you want with a pencil or a pen.If you want to know how the eyes look relative to the mask size, use a reference photo. If you want your sunglasses to be larger than the size of your eyes, you need to check against the eye size.
Step 8: The mask's eyes should be removed.
Put one hand inside the mask, then hold a pair of scissors with the other.Carefully pierce a hole on the line of one eye, then cut along it.When the first eye is cut out, do the same for the second eye.Make sure your scissors are sharp and your hands are stable, otherwise your cuts could turn out jagged or even.If you look at photos of Spiderman, you can see the shape of the eyes.Spiderman's eyes are usually triangular, with a straight line on top and a U-shaped line in the lower eyelid.
Step 9: Take out the sunglasses.
When you apply pressure, most sunglasses will pop out.Hold the frame with both hands and push out the lens with your thumbs.Make sure you don't push too hard.
Step 10: Attach the lens to the mask with hot glue.
Wait for your hot glue gun to warm up, then apply a thin line to the outside of the lens.Hold the neck of the mask open with one hand and use the other to move the lens inside.Attach the glue to the fabric inside the mask by placing the lens under one of the eye holes.Make sure that the eye hole is completely filled by the lens. The second lens should be applied.Attach a thin line to the other lens and then use the exact same method to create the second eye.You have a few seconds to move the lens before the glue dries.Light pressure can be applied to the side of the lens to fill the eye-hole.The glue takes 15 seconds to set, so keep in mind the amount of time you have left to make changes.
Step 11: Draw the borders of the eyes.
Spiderman has thick black borders around his eyes. You can sketch out a border around each eye using fabric paint or sharpie. If you feel more ambitious, cut out some black fabric from an old t-shirt and hot-glue it on.
Step 12: Draw on the web.
Look in a comic book or online for a reference photo and copy Spiderman's web patterns onto the mask.If you're not comfortable giving the webs away, try to sketch them on with a pencil first. You can draw over the penciled lines with your Sharpie or Fabric paint.
Step 13: Let it dry.
You will need to let the mask dry now that it has been hot-glued.For specific times, read your bottle of fabric paint and hot-glue instructions. The fabric paint may take up to 72 hours to dry, depending on the brand.
Step 14: Try it out.
After your mask has dried, try it on.Either wear it on its own or pair it with a homemade Spiderman costume. It's perfect for Halloween, Super Hero events, or costume parties.
