How To Make a Stylus

Did you misplace your pen?Are you having trouble using your touch screen while wearing gloves or are you looking for more accuracy when drawing on your tablets? You don't need to spend a lot of money on a new stylus if you can make one yourself.

Step 1: Which type of touch screen does your device use?

You may not be able to use your homemade stylus on all of the touch screens. The human body has an electrical conductor that can be used to register where contact is made.Nintendo DS, The 3Ds, the Nook, and some other phones and e-readers use touch screens that don't require pressure to register contact.Just be careful not to scratch the screen, because you can use just about anything as a makeshift stylus.

Step 2: If you're not sure, try your screen.

The screen has a pen cap on it.The device has a touch screen. The screen is inactive if nothing happens.

Step 3: Take your materials.

There is a clean dish sponge and a ballpoint pen.If you can easily remove the plastic tip from the pen, it will work best. It's easier to see what you're doing with a slightly see-through pen.

Step 4: Take a piece of the sponge and put it in the pen.

You can either mark the measurement with a marker or hold the pen against the sponge to approximate it.

Step 5: If the sponge has an abrasive side, tear it off.

Your screen can be damaged by anything abrasive. The sponge part is what you want.

Step 6: The sponge should be washed and dried.

It's a good idea to rinse the sponge in warm water if it comes with soap already added. The sponge should be dried by squeezing out all of the water.

Step 7: If it is a click pen, remove the plastic tip and interior of the pen.

The empty base of the pen is what you should be left with. You should be able to pull the tip off with one hand.Try using a pair of pliers.

Step 8: The sponge should be put into the pen.

Push the sponge into the base to make it smaller.

Step 9: There is a sponge sticking out of the pen.

Use your finger to break up the sponge.

Step 10: If you want your stylus to work, hold it near the tip.

The base of the pen needs to be touched with your fingers. The touch screen won't register the touch of the stylus if you hold the pen's hollow part.

Step 11: Take your materials.

You will need about a foot of foil, tape, and a pencil. You might need a sharp knife to cut your pencil. If you don't have a pencil, you can use something else.As you may want to cut your stylus to have an angle, pencils or other wooden objects are the best choice.

Step 12: To get the pencil tip to a flat angle, use a sharp knife.

You aren't sharpening the pencil tip to write with it.A surface area of at least four millimeters is the size of a pencil eraser or the tip of your finger.A lot of touch screens don't register the touch of smaller objects. The stylus will work if you hold it straight up and down.It will be more comfortable to hold.Remember to cut away from your body when handling a knife.Don't pull the knife towards yourself.

Step 13: Wrap the pencil with foil.

The foil should be folded neatly over the tips. The cap should be on the pen when you wrap it.

Step 14: The foil should be smooth over the pencil tip.

The tip should be smooth and flat. You don't want bumps or crinkles.Your stylus might not work if your tip is not flat.

Step 15: Wrap a piece of tape around the pencil.

The foil will stay in place.

Step 16: Attach the tip of the stylus to the tape.

The screen will be protected from being scratched by the aluminum foil.

Step 17: If it works, try it.

Try to flatten your tip even more if it isn't working. If you want the tip to be acknowledged by your touch screen, you need to make it at least the size of an eraser.

Step 18: You should gather your materials.

You'll need something tosharpen the wood.If you don't have a pencil sharpener, you could use a knife to cut the tip.It may break if you use an electric pencil sharpener.

Step 19: The pencil sharpener can be used tosharpen the tip of the chopstick.

You want it to look like a pencil tip.

Step 20: Use the sandpaper to smooth the tip.

The touch screen may be damaged by a sharp tip.The tip should be rubbed with the sandpaper. If you press it into your skin, it will not hurt. You don't want to get splinters if you sand the edges of the chopstick.

Step 21: Washi tape or paint can be used to decorate your stylus.

A few layers of tape may make the stylus more comfortable to hold. This stylus can be used on any device with a capacitive screen.
