Why buy a costume when you can make your own?You probably already have some simple arts and crafts materials lying around the house that you could use to make your own superhero costume or superhero complete with personalized powers.Start building your superhero look by thinking about the basics of a costume.
Step 1: Put on some spandex.
All superheros wear a tight get-up, whether it be a unitard, leggings or a full-body suit.Start building your costume from a foundation of spandex by picking a color or two.
Step 2: Go for a long-sleeve tee shirt and full length leggings.
The majority of superheros cover their skin to avoid being recognized.Solid colored clothing can be used instead of spandex. If you are having a hard time finding solid-colored spandex, visit an American Apparel clothing store.
Step 3: Put on a full-body suit.
You can purchase a full-body spandex suit from a costume store or online at a website such as superfansuits.com.
Step 4: You can hide your face with a mask.
It is important to hide your identity as a superhero. If you want to prevent being discovered, make a mask of your face. There are several ways to make a mask.
Step 5: A paper mask can be made.
If you want to mark where the tip of your nose is, you can use a paper plate and hold up a piece of sturdy cardstock. The dots on the piece of paper are the reference points for how big your mask needs to be.Take the shape of your mask and poke two holes in it.You can tie the mask behind your head by attaching a ribbon or string to each hole.Colored markers, paint, sequins, feathers, glitter, or any other adornments that suit your superpower can be used to decorate the outline.
Step 6: Tin foil and tape can be used to make a mask.
If you want to make an impression on the tin foil, stack three sheets of foil together and press the stack on your face. With a marker, sketch out where your eyes and other openings are.Use scissors to cut around the edges of the mask.Attach a string or ribbon to the side of the mask that has a hole in it and hold it on your face.Make sure to keep the mold firm by covering the mask with packing tape. You can decorate with feathers or other adornments.
Step 7: A mask made of mché.
Attach a balloon to your head.If you want to use the newspaper as a working surface, place it on a table or the floor.Cut strips of thin cloth or newspaper to make long strips. In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups flour and 1 cup water. If you don't have any flour, you can use 2 cups of white glue.If you want to lay the strips of paper or cloth on the balloon, you have to dip them in the mixture completely.Place the strips at intersecting angles.Allow it to dry completely and then pop the balloon.Cut the globe in half using strong scissors starting at the base of the balloon where it was tied and cutting up over the peak. You can shape the mask to fit your face, cut out any openings for your eyes or mouth, and then decorate it with paint and other decorations.
Step 8: You can find a piece of fabric.
Most superheros wouldn't be caught without this accessory. You can make a cape from any piece of fabric you have lying around, such as an old sheet. It is inexpensive at most arts and crafts stores.
Step 9: If you want the corners of your cape to fall, you need to drape the fabric over your shoulders.
If the cape is long, you will trip on it when you walk.
Step 10: Remove the shape of the cape.
Use a ruler to connect the four corners of the dots.
Step 11: You should decorate your cape.
Attach a symbol or letter that spells out your name in the center of the cape. The felt is easy to manipulable and won't fold as you fly around. You can either use a hot glue gun or leftover strips to attach your symbol.
Step 12: Attach the cape to you.
You can either tie the fabric in a knot where it hits your chest, use a safety pin to hold it in place, or attach strips to your base outfit and cape so that the two meet around the top of your shoulders.
Step 13: There are brightly colored boots.
Adding brightly colored rain boots to your outfit will make it pop.
Step 14: Soccer socks.
If you don't want to be walking around outside, you can wear a pair of high-topped soccer socks in the color of your choice.
Step 15: Make duct tape boots.
Duct tape boots are a fast and inexpensive alternative to buying colored boots.Put on a pair of old sneakers and put a few layers of plastic wrap around the shoe and up around your calf as you want your boots to be.If you want your boots to be a certain color, purchase duct tape.To keep the tape as flat as possible, begin to tape on top of the plastic in small pieces.Don't tape too tightly around your leg.You are ready to start trick-or-treating once you have covered the entire surface of your boot.If you want to slip your foot out of the boot, you can use scissors to cut a line down the back. When you want to wear the boots, slip them on over your sneakers and re-tape the back slit with duct tape.If you want a more polished look, add a few inches of duct tape to the top of the boot.
Step 16: The boots were made of felt.
Step on a piece of paper and trace your feet with a marker, which will allow more space between the outline and your foot.Measure from the tip of the toes to the highest point on the boot using a tape measure. To allow the boot to flare out, add 2 inches to the measurement. To make a rough upside-down T shape, connect the two measurements to a separate piece of paper and transfer an outline of them. You should repeat for your other foot.Put the two sole pieces and four body pieces on the felt.Cut out four felt pieces from the shape of the paper template with a pen or pencil.Pin two of the body pieces in an L-shape on top of your foot and sew them together along the top seam and the back seam.To hide the seam, turn the boot inside out.If you want a strong seam, sew around the edges of the L-shaped tube at least twice. You're done if you repeat this process for the second boot.
Step 17: Take care of your superhero outfit.
If you want the neighborhood kids to know what you're capable of in superhero mode, carry a fake weapon or decorate your outfit in a way that shows them.If you have the ability to transform into an animal, cut out a design using paper or felt and attach it to your shirt or cape.Make sure your accessory matches theirs if you are going to be a superhero.
Step 18: Become Superman.
Superman's powers are part of who he is.Re-create this superhero's look by adding an epic superman "S" to the front of your shirt.Attach it to your shirt.
Step 19: You can shine like Spiderman.
Spider-man doesn't need fancy tools to fight crime. The front of your shirt should be the center of the spider web.You can achieve a web-like look by drawing with silver glitter glue or by covering it with white glue while it is still wet.Shake off any excess glitter after the glue has dried. You could make a spider out of paper or felt and attach it to the center of your web.
Step 20: Make a Batman costume.
The pockets on the sides of Batman's yellow belt hold his gadgets. You can make a belt out of felt, sew on pockets, or attach eyeglass cases to the sides to hold your gadgets.Don't forget to fill your belt pockets with super accessories such as Batman's Bat-monitor (use a black walkie talkie), bat-cuffs (paint plastic handcuffs black), and bat lasso. If you don't have a walkie talkie or play handcuffs, you can always make your own gadgets out of cardboard.
Step 21: Wow with a costume.
A gold lasso, a gold belt, gold arm bands, and a tiara are the most recognizable assets of this Superhero. If you have gold rope, tie it to your belt and spray paint it.Wonder Woman's gold belt can be made out of thick paper or felt, or spray painted. To represent arm bands, cut out strips of shiny fabric, gold paper, or tin foil painted gold and wear thick gold bangle bracelets.Place your arm bands on your wrists. To create the crowning tiara, you can either cover a headband with a gold material or cut a tiara shape out of paper and staple it together behind your head.Attach a red star to a tiara.
Step 22: A shield for Captain America.
Captain America has a mask and a shield. You can make a shield out of cardboard by cutting a large circular shape and painting it.You can use a plastic sled, stockpot lid, or garbage can lid.Attach a piece of felt or ribbon to the back of the shield with hot glue or a stapler to make a handle.Attach a white star from paper or felt to the shield.
Step 23: You can be Wolverine in the streets.
The claws are created using tin foil and cardboard. You can spray paint rubber dish washing gloves the same color as your skin.Cut out long, sharp claws from cardboard and put them in foil.Attach the claws to the rubber gloves with hot glue.
