How to make a tennis ball car-stop for the garage by hanging it from a garage ceiling.
I used a guide string and a tennis ball with a lot of string attached to it to pre-position the ball before mounting a screw eye to hang it from.
I could use a guide string with the ball thrown over it to create a triangle.I could move the point at which the ball was hanging over the left and right string. The ball could be positioned directly over the point I wanted it to touch the car's windshield. The excess string attached to the ball could be used to move it up and down to be sure that it actually touched the car where I wanted it.
The risk of me scratching the car with the ladder was lowered when I set up the string outside of the garage.I was able to accurately hang the ball because I manipulated the jig while the car was in the garage.
Small screw eyes that won't fall out of the ceiling while in use will leave a hole behind.
The tennis ball ran through it.When I got started, I had about 10 feet of string attached to my ball.
Determine where the guide string is going. You won't be able to get the ball in position if it's behind the point. You can do this by getting the car where you want it and making a mental note of the position behind that spot. The car can be moved back out of the garage once you have that spot.
The ball is going to be hanging from the ceiling if the screw eyes are not screwed in.
You can't have too much slack if you run string through both eyes.Attach the string to the other end.I would look for something with a small radius to wrap the string around. The smaller the radius, the smaller your adjustments will be.You can adjust the position of the ball.
4.Pass the ball over the guide string and anchor the other end in the parking lot. This will be used to adjust how far the ball hangs from the ceiling.
The car needs to be moved back into the garage. You want to make sure the car is where you want it.
Pull in/release the guide string until the ball has moved back and forth enough to align with the target position along this axis.
To mark the intersection point, use a level as a straight edge. While trying not to push the ball string, mark one line. While trying not to push the guide string, mark the other.Depending on your viewpoint, you should have an "x" or "+".
If there is stud, you can tell. You might want to use a drywall anchor to make sure you don't accidentally pull out the screw eye in the future.

Why is it so complicated? The car is in the garage or on the wall.If you want to drill a hook on that point, move the car out.Move the car back in by attaching a string to the hook. The ball should be tied to the rope with the right length.Done.

I suppose I was shooting for accuracy.I didn't think I would be able to get the ball in the right spot.

I know what you did and how many use such setups to determine when they are in the garage at the perfect place. You can walk into the hanging ball when your vehicle is out of the garage. Not a good idea for your eyes. There is a red, yellow and greed light on the wall to let you know when you are in the correct position. You won't walk into them because they are cheap and effective. An idea.

If I had my own devices, I would have used them.It would have been more enjoyable.
