Amigurumi are crocheted dolls. Some people make animals, such as cats, dogs, and horses.Adding hair to an amigurumi can make it look like a doll.It can make the character more recognizable if it's based on an existing character from a book, movie, or series. There are a number of ways to attach amigurumi hair. You can change your technique and make your own unique hairstyle once you know the basics.
Step 1: Pick the yarn for the hair.
You can use any color of yarn.Try to use the same amount of yarn as you used for the rest of the doll.If you make your amigurumi with crochet thread, you should use it for the hair as well.
Step 2: The wig cap should be the same color of yarn as the hair.
You used the same pattern for the amigurumi's head. The back of the head is where the wig cap will be placed.Depending on where you want the hair to be, how far down the cap goes depends. You should leave a long tail of yarn at the end of the wig cap.
Step 3: Using a simple, running stitch, sew the wig cap onto the amigurumi's head.
The wig cap has a yarn needle on it.The wig cap should be over the back of the head.Once you are happy with the placement, sew the cap onto the head using a running stitch. When you are done, sew along the bottom edge of the wig cap and knot the yarn.
Step 4: Wrap the rest of the yarn around the cardboard.
If you want the hair to be the first, you have to cut a piece of cardboard.Wrap yarn around the cardboard. It's a good idea to hold the yarn along the top or bottom edge.Wrap the yarn about 50 to 70 times depending on the doll you are making.Wrap at the bottom edge of the cardboard.
Step 5: The yarn should be along the bottom edge of the cardboard.
50 to 70 separate strands are twice the length you need them to be.The hair will be the right length once you attach it.The strands of yarn should be kept together.
Step 6: The wig cap has a crochet hook on it.
Don't use the running stitch to sew the cap onto the head, and make sure you put the hook through the actual cap.You can use a crochet hook that matches the yarn you are using.
Step 7: Pull one of the yarn strands.
Remove one of the strands of yarn. You can catch it with the hook. The yarn strand can be pulled by the crochet hook back out of the wig cap.
Step 8: Pull the yarn through the loop.
To grab the tail ends of the yarn strand, use your fingers or a crochet hook.Pull them through the small loop.To tighten the knot, gently tug on them. You've attached your first strand.
Step 9: Attach more strands at the base of the head.
Attach more strands of yarn to the wig cap using the same method.Continue until you fill the entire bottom edge of the wig cap.If you didn't make a wig cap, you can sketch a guide line with a dressmaker's pen.
Step 10: The rest of the wig cap should be filled in.
Row by row until you reach the top of the head. You don't need to fill every row because of how much yarn takes up.You need to fill the top of the head.
Step 11: Take care of the amigurumi's hair.
You can brush the yarn hair with your fingers. If you have to trim the hair, use scissors until you want it to be shorter. The yarn will come apart if you brush it.If you have to brush it, use your fingers. If you want your amigurumi to have curly hair, you can gently untangle the strands of yarn with a wide-toothed comb. The best yarn for this to work is 4-ply.
Step 12: Pick a yarn for the hair.
It is possible to make the hair with any color of yarn, but it should be the same weight. If you make amigurumi with crochet thread, you should use it for the hair as well.A ponytail or two pigtails will be created with this method.
Step 13: You can use the same pattern to make a wig cap.
If you are going to use yarn for hair, use the same color. If you slip the wig cap on the back of the head, size it accordingly. How tall you make the cap depends on where you want it to be.At the end of the wig cap, leave a long tail of yarn. You will be able to sew it on.
Step 14: The wig cap needs to be put on the amigurumi's head.
The wig cap has a long tail.Put the wig cap on the amigurumi's head.Use a running stitch to sew the wig cap onto the head. The wig cap should have the stitches on the bottom edge.Cut the yarn when you're done.
Step 15: Wrap the yarn around the cardboard.
Cut the cardboard down to the length you want the hair to be first, then wrap the yarn around it, about 50 to 70 times.Wrap the cardboard at the bottom edge. It's a good idea to hold the yarn along one of the edges.
Step 16: The yarn should be separated along the bottom edge of the cardboard.
You will now have a lot of yarn that is twice the length you need.Once you attach them to the head, they will be the right length.
Step 17: The wig cap has a crochet hook on it.
Pick a crochet hook that matches the yarn you are using. It should be inserted through one of the stitches on the wig cap.
Step 18: Pull one of the strands through the stitch.
Pick up a strand of yarn.Put the middle over the point of the crochet hook.Pull the strand back through the stitch with the crochet hook.
Step 19: Pull the tail ends of the yarn through the loop.
Pull the yarn through the 1-inch loop using your finger or crochet hook.To tighten the knot, tug on them.
Step 20: Attach more strands along the bottom edge of the wig cap.
Attach more strands of yarn to the wig cap using the same method.Continue until you have filled the entire bottom edge of the wig cap.If you want a thicker ponytail, add another row of yarn strands just above the first one.
Step 21: If you want pigtails add a double center part.
Imagine a line going from the back of the nape to the front.Attach more yarn strands to this line using the same method.Next to each other, you need two lines.Make the strands on the left and right line point in the same direction. If you are making a ponytail, skip this step.
Step 22: The amigurumi has hair.
A ponytail or two pigtails are all you need.Wrap a piece of yarn around it.Wrap a clear elastic around the ponytail or pigtails first, then add the yarn. The ponytail needs to be high on the amigurumi's head. The double center part can be used as a guide. You can braid the pigtails for a fancy doll.
Step 23: Pick the right yarn for the hair.
You can use any color of yarn you want, but it should be the same weight as the rest of the doll.If you made your amigurumi with crochet thread, you should use it as well.
Step 24: Use your hair color to make a wig cap.
You used the same pattern for the amigurumi's head. How long you make the wig cap depends on how far down you want the hair to go.If you want to sew the wig cap onto the doll, you have to cut the tail end.
Step 25: Use a running stitch to sew the wig cap onto the amigurumi's head.
The back of the doll's head should be covered by the wig cap.Use a running stitch to sew the yarn in place after threading a yarn needle onto the tail end.Put the stitches on the bottom edge of the wig cap only. When you're done, knot and cut the yarn.
Step 26: Attach the yarn to the wig cap with a slipstitch.
The wig cap has a crochet hook through it.Pull the yarn through the stitch to make a small loop.If you want to catch more yarn, bring the hook back over thestitch. The loop will fall off of the hook if it is pulled through the loop. You can start anywhere along the edge of the wig cap, but it might be best to start at the back. The tail will be put back in place later on.
Step 27: There is a chain stitch.
The chain will be shorter once it starts curling. It could be two stitches longer.
Step 28: You can work your way back down with a single crochet.
Prepare to make your next curl when you are back to where you started.
Step 29: The crochet hook should be inserted in the second stitch to the left or right of the first one.
Move your crochet hook over the wig cap.Pull up a loop of yarn if you insert it into the next stitch.
Step 30: Continue until you fill the bottom edge of the wig cap.
Just like the first chain, make another one.Use single crochet to work your way back down.Make a second curl by moving the hook over.
Step 31: Use more hair to fill the rest of the wig cap.
The next row should be done by moving the crochet hook up by one stitch. When you're done with the last curl, knot the yarn to the wig cap, cut it, and weave the tail into the cap.If you notice the curls take up a lot of room, it's okay to skip rows or stitches.
Step 32: If you want, place the curls down into position.
The yarn should be Threaded onto a yarn needle. After knotting the end, you can use it to sew the curls onto the wig cap you want.Start with the bottom layer and work your way up.If you want your amigurumi to have wild, unruly hair, skip this step.
Step 33: The tail should be put back into the wig cap.
Attach the tail to the yarn needle. The tail should be put into the wig cap with a simple running stitch.
