Many cultures around the world use an ocarina. You can make a traditional ocarina with your hands. It's difficult to master the hand ocarina, but once you do, you can start singing and whistling.
Step 1: In front of you, put your hands out.
With your palms facing each other, hold your hands apart and point towards the ceiling.Your thumbs should point up as well.It should look like you were praying and taking your hands apart.
Step 2: When you turn your left hand, bring your palms together.
As if clapping, move your hands towards each other. If you turn your left hand, you will see that your fingers are pointing forward rather than up at the ceiling. The heel of your left hand should be against your right thumb when you touch it.These directions assume you are right-handed.It may be easier to reverse the references to the hands in this step as well as the following hands if you are a leftie.
Step 3: Wrap your hands together.
If you want to hold the other hand, bend your fingers. The space between your thumb and index finger should be used for your right hand's fingers. The pinkie on your right hand should be curled around the fingers of your left hand.
Step 4: You should line up your thumbs.
If you want the insides of both knuckles to touch each other, you need to adjust your thumbs.Your index finger should be next to your thumbnail. There should be a small gap between your thumbs. The sound hole is where you blow air into the ocarina and where the whistling noise will come out.
Step 5: Put your lips up.
If you said "Oooh", you'd part your lips slightly.Place your lips so that the small "o" formed between them lines up.Your bottom lip should be over the top half of the slit between your thumbs.
Step 6: Blow.
Take a steady stream of air and blow it into the slit between your thumbs. You want to blow right below your thumb. If you do it right, you can hear a whistle that sounds like a hooting owl or wooden train whistle. If you want to make the bird call with your vocal cords, don't vocalize. If you blow noiselessly, you will get an empty bottle to whistle.
Step 7: Minor adjustments must be made until you whistle consistently.
If this is your first time, it can be hard to get your hand ocarina to work.If you're getting the dry, pitch-less sound of rushing air, it's probably a mistake. The seal around your ocarina may not be tight enough. The shape of your hands can be adjusted to close gaps.Just make sure you don't let any air out. There is a possibility that the noise hole isn't the right shape. The hole might be a little narrower if you move your thumbs closer together. You may be blowing in the wrong place. You can widen the "o" formed by your lips by moving them up and down. You want to blow into the top half of the slit.
Step 8: Try lifting your fingers.
The pitch of the whistle will be affected if you let air out of your ocarina through points other than the sound hole.A way to mimic a flute player's movements is to lift the four fingers on your right hand up and down. The harder it is to get a pitch, the more ways there are for air to escape. It's difficult to do without causing your whistle to make a noise. You will need to keep a seal between your hands, lift your finger and support the note with air.It can take a long time to learn how to make a whistle.
Step 9: Change the space between your hands.
The air between your hands is what makes the whistle sound.Changing the shape of your hands will affect the pitch by letting more or less air in.Air can't leak out of a tight seal between your hands.A lower-pitched sound can be produced by making a bigger space. You can make a higher-pitched sound by moving your hands together.
Step 10: You can change the posture of your lips.
Changing the way you blow can affect the pitch of your note.Try making a smaller "o" with your lips for a higher pitch. The "draw bend" is a technique used by experienced harmonica players. If you pull your tongue to the back of your mouth, you can get a similar effect. This takes practice.
