How To Make Homemade Yoghurt Thicker

There are a couple of things you can do to make your homemade yogurt thicker. It will be worth the time spent if you skip down to Step 1 and start with a new process.

Step 1: Use fat free milk to make your yogurt thicker.

Fat free milk makes a thicker yogurt than regular milk.

Step 2: Before heating the milk, add 1/2 cup of milk powder to it.

The final product is helped by this.

Step 3: Milk can be heated to a higher temperature.

For a full 20 minutes, keep the milk at the higher temperature. The higher temperature allows the milk to evaporate and result in a thicker yogurt. If you have a double boiler, it will be easier to maintain the temperature with little stirring.Don't let the milk get too hot or become scorched if you use an accurate temperature tester. It's a good idea to have a candy thermometer.

Step 4: Allow the milk to cool before adding the culture.

It is best to use cold running water to reduce the temperature, but not to go below 90oF.

Step 5: Let the yogurt sit for a minimum of seven hours.

For at least seven hours, let the yoghurt sit longer than you normally would because it will become thicker as time goes on.

Step 6: For a longer time, strain the yogurt.

It is very important to strain the yogurt through a strainer to remove the liquid from it.Place the strainer over the bowl and place the assembly in the refrigerator during the straining process.Depending on how thick you want it to be, you can either strain it for a few minutes or overnight.

Step 7: If you want to start the next batches, use the yoghurt from this one.
