Your holiday guests are sure to love these unique and festive cookies that are so easy to make, the kids can join in the fun of making them.A few dozen of your favorite cookies, marshmallows, and royal icing is all you need. You and the kids can decorate the cookies using gel, candy, or decorative nonpareils once you've assembled your snowmen.
Step 1: Beat egg whites.
The whites and yolks should be separated. To make sure you don't get yolk in the whites, crack the eggs into two separate bowls.Use your fingers or the shells of the eggs to scoop out the yolks and put them in a bowl. The whites should be placed in a separate bowl. The egg whites will look frothy if you beat them with a hand or stand mixer. This should take about a minute. You can either save the egg yolks or discard them.
Step 2: Put the powdered sugar in the mixer.
Slowly stir in powdered sugar as the mixer is turned down to low speed. You should add 8 cups of powdered sugar, but you may need more.Add and beat the sugar until the icing becomes thick. The mixer should be kept on low until the powdered sugar is added. To thoroughly mix the icing, you can increase the speed.
Step 3: Lemon juice can be added.
The lemon juice should be in 1/2 cup.The juice should be beaten into the icing with the mixer. The lemon juice will make the icing thinner. You can add more lemon juice if the icing still seems stiff. If you spoon the icing onto a cookie, it will spread a little. The appearance of melting snow will be helped by this.
Step 4: Pick out your supplies.
You will need 24 baked and cooled sugar cookies and 24 marshmallows after you've made the royal icing. The cookies can be a traditional circular shape or you can cut them out in unusual shapes to create a puddle effect. If you don't like baking cookies, you can purchase them. You can try other flavors of cookies.Chocolate or peanut butter cookies make great snowmen cookies.
Step 5: The cookies should be placed on baking sheets.
Place a sheet of wax paper over each cookie sheet. You want to leave 1 inch of space between the cookies. It will be easier to remove the snowmen with the wax paper. The baking mat could also be set down.
Step 6: The cookies should be frosted.
Take a spoon or offset spatula and scoop the royal icing onto the cookies.Spread the icing over the cookie by using the back of the spoon or spatula. The icing should be pushed to the edges of the cookie. You can leave some of the cookie exposed so it looks like snow is melting off of it.
Step 7: There are puffed marshmallows.
Place 1 marshmallows on a microwave-safe plate with baking spray. For 20 to 30 seconds, microwave the marshmallows. The marshmallows should be on the edge of your iced cookies after you remove them from the microwave. You can do this for both cookies and marshmallows. When you place the marshmallows, the icing should still be wet.It will set better with this. It's a good idea to avoid microwaving several marshmallows at the same time.
Step 8: You can use decorating gel.
You can use black, green, red, and orange decorating gels to make snowmen cookies. They're fast to use and won't flavor your cookies. The colors may start to bleed into the royal icing if you make these cookies a few days in advance. On the day you plan to serve them, consider decorating them with the gel.
Step 9: The snowmen can be decorated with candy.
Place small nonpareils, red hot candies, or mini chocolate chips instead of piping gel for the coal buttons or scarves. These will give your snowmen cookies an extra crunch. You can use peanut butter cups as snowmen hats.It is possible to place the small candies with a pair of tweezers.
Step 10: There are cookies or pretzels on the snowmen.
You can place mini pretzel sticks on the snowmen to make them look like arms. They should be arranged so they look like they have melted off the snowmen and fallen onto the ground. You can place small cookies on the snowmen's heads to make them look like hats.A little royal icing can be put on a mini chocolate sandwich cookie to make a snowman. This will be the small hat.
Step 11: A scarf made of candy.
Use a piece of candy vine or candy ribbon to wrap around each snowman. You need a candy that is thin enough to wrap around the base of the marshmallows. If the vines are long or thick, you can cut the candy down to size.
Step 12: There is a display for snowmen cookies.
You need to serve the snowmen cookies after you've decorated them. You can place cookies on the coconut by covering the tray. This will make it look like the cookies are outside. The snowmen cookies can be dusted with powdered sugar. This will give the appearance of snow.
