How To Make Palazzo Pants

Palazzo pants are long, loose, wide leg trousers that come in and out of fashion frequently. For the hot summer months they are usually made from crepe and jersey.Even if you don't know how to sew, you can make your own palazzo pants in 30 minutes.

Step 1: You should gather your materials.

You will need some special materials and tools to make palazzo pants, but it's easier than you think. You will need a pair of loose fitting sweatpants with some stretchy jersey fabric in the print or color of your choice. The elastic material for the waistband is pinned by a pair of scissors.

Step 2: Put out your fabric.

Place the print on the inside of the jersey fabric by folding it in half.Place your fabric on a clean surface, such as a hardwood floor or a large table.Make sure that there are no bumps or ripples in the fabric.

Step 3: Put your pants on.

The pattern for the palazzo pants will be found in your sweatpants.Lay your sweatpants on top of your fabric by folding them in half. The inseam should be facing away from the edge of the jersey fabric.

Step 4: Cut the fabric.

You can cut along the outer edge of your sweatpants with your scissors. To make sure they are large enough, you should cut the fabric a few inches away from the sweatpants.Follow the curve of the waist to the crotch.Cut along the outer edge of the sweatpants leg.

Step 5: Take a few inches off the top and bottom.

Next, cut a strip from the top and bottom of your fabric. This will allow you to change the length of your pants. You can use your sweatpants as a guide. The fabric should be a few inches away from the bottom of your pants and the waistband.Don't worry if there is a lot of fabric at the top of your pants. You will modify your waistband for the fit you want later on.

Step 6: The pants have to be turned over.

After you have cut one side, flip your sweatpants over so that their inseam is close to the other side of your fabric. As you did with the other side, cut along the waist, crotch, and leg of the sweatpants.Pick up your sweatpants after you've cut the basic pattern.

Step 7: You should trim along the curve.

The waist and hips of your pants are the curves that you created in the fabric. You will need to trim it because it should be snug.Bring the waist in by trimming an inch off of this area on both sides.

Step 8: You can pin along the edges.

Pin your fabric along the curved edges of the waist area.Don't pin the legs yet, just along the outer edge of the curved area.Place the pins one inch away from the edge of the fabric and three inches apart.Place ball-head pins so that the points are facing in towards the fabric and the balls are on the outside.

Step 9: Take the curved edges and sew them together.

You pinned the curved edges, so begin sewing them. You should remove the pins before sewing them over. You can either use a regular straight stitch or a baste stitch to secure the edges and then go along the regular stitch.A temporary stitch is easy to remove if you don't like the result.Make sure that your stitch is at least one to two inches from the edge of the fabric.Remove any excess thread from the areas you just sewed after you have finished sewing.

Step 10: Lay your fabric out.

Pick up your fabric and adjust it so that the two seams that you created are facing each other after you have sewed both sides of the pants.Put the fabric on the flat surface. The leg fabric should now look like pant legs with a space between them. The inseam of your pants will be located here. The fabric has a print on it.Don't turn it inside.

Step 11: Pull the crotch and inseam of the pant legs.

Place one pin at the crotch and then go to the inside of the pant legs and place pins three inches apart. The pins have to be at least an inch from the edge of the fabric. The other pant leg should be pinned as well.

Step 12: You have to sew along the inseam.

After your pants are pinned, you are sewing. Before you sew over them, take out the pins. It's a good idea to sew away from the edge of the fabric. You can either start with a regular stitch, or you can follow it up with another stitch. After sewing the inseam, you should trim off any excess thread.

Step 13: Try on your clothes.

If you want to know where to cut your waistband, turn the pants inside out and try them on.Pull the fabric up and fold it over. The fabric should be adjusted to where it feels comfortable. The folded fabric should be close to the belly button.Remove the pants when you have found a comfortable height. If you like the level of the waistband, try to keep it folded.Place a couple of pins to keep it in place.

Step 14: There is a folded waistband.

To trim the bottom edge of the folded material, use your scissors. If this is a little lower than you want, you don't have to worry. You will get the fabric back.If you want your waist to be a little lower than you measured, you can always cut a bit of fabric off of the folded waistband material that you just trimmed off.Keep in mind that this is optional.

Step 15: Cut and sew your band.

You will need to trim the elastic band to make it smaller.Hold the elastic band next to the fabric waistband by folding it in half. You should trim along the open edge of the elastic band to make it a couple of inches smaller. You should sew the edge of your elastic band to a circle after you cut it.The side you cut has an elastic band on it.

Step 16: Prepare your fabric.

Turn the fabric so that the print is facing the other way.The waistband needs to be doubled. To double the material, fold it in half all the way around. To make sure that they are all even, check the edges. To sew the waistband onto the pants, the edges need to be lined up.

Step 17: The elastic should be tucked into the waistband.

Take your elastic waistband and put it in between the waistband fabric. The elastic band will be at the top of the palazzo pants' waistband. The elastic band should not be seen when you are done.

Step 18: The pants need to be pinned to the waistband.

The top fold should be facing down towards your pant legs if you hold the waistband.Line up the edges of your palazzo pants by pulling the waist through the waistband.Even the edges of the waist should be open.Pin the edges together.Make sure the pins go all the way through the material. All along the edge of the waist, place them three inches apart.

Step 19: Along the pinned area, sew.

You should sew along this area after pinning the waistband to the waist. As you sew, stretch the fabric to make sure you don't have any bumps or ripples. The stitch should be an inch away from the edge. After sewing the edge, you can either remove the pins or take them out. After you have taken out the pins, try on your new palazzo pants.
