As your body changes while you are pregnant, maternity clothing can help you look professional. As your stomach grows larger, maternity pants usually feature knit or stretchy fabric over the belly. It is difficult to find maternity pants that fit well in the hips, buttocks, thighs, and stomach. One way to make sure your maternity pants fit is to convert your normal pants. If you don't have pants at home that you want to convert, you can go to a thrift store and try on jeans or pants. You will find pants that have already been worn and stretched. There is a way to make regular pants into maternity pants.

Step 1: Try on the jeans or pants that you want to wear.

They can comfortably close without pinching your belly if you Zip them up.

Step 2: Use a fabric pen to mark on the front of your pants.

Step 3: A curve that dips from just under your side belt loops down to a marked point is what you can draw.

You should have a curve that cuts through your pockets.

Step 4: Once you are satisfied that the curve is even on both sides, you can cut it with fabric scissors.

Step 5: Just under the belt loops, cut across the back of the pants.

If you have your back pockets, they should stay intact.

Step 6: Your sewing machine should be able to stitch below the cut you just made.

This will keep it from happening.Load a thread that is the same color as your pants.

Step 7: If you want to convert jeans, use a size 100 jeans needle and strong thread.

There are craft stores that sell denim sewing thread.

Step 8: Use a straight stitch to Stitch once along the entire cut edge.

Stitch 1 more time across the fly region.

Step 9: Cut the elastic.

If you use elastic that is 2 inches (5 cm) or wider, it won't dig into your belly.

Step 10: Try on the pants again.

Wrap the elastic around your waist at the top of your pants. The band should be comfortable and not too tight. You want the elastic to be tight enough to keep the pants on, but also allow room for growth.

Step 11: You marked the point with your fabric pen by pinning the elastic band together.

Excess elastic should be cut off.Put the ends of the elastic band together.

Step 12: The section of the bands that will fit over your stomach should be used with a 4-way stretch knit fabric or tight t-shirt.

You can choose between black, blue or another color to match your pants or a patterned fabric that will create a contrast. You will need at least a quarter of a yard to make the fabric waistband.A blend of cotton and Lycra will work.Make sure that the knit fabric is elastic so that it doesn't stretch too far.If you choose a t-shirt, make sure it fits over your belly. You can cut a horizontal section of the shirt to use as a waist band.

Step 13: Use a fabric measuring tape to measure your elastic band.

Subtract 2 inches from the measurement. This is the width of your waist band.

Step 14: The width measurement is equal to the length of knit or t-shirt material.

Cut it so that it's between 14 and 17 inches tall.If you have a long torso, use a longer measurement than a 14 inch measurement.

Step 15: If you are trying to make a tube top, you should pin the ends of the fabric together.

On your sewing machine, sew the side together.

Step 16: The back sides of the fabric tube need to be touched.

The new seam should be folded in half and you should have rough edges at the bottom and the top.

Step 17: Measure your elastic.

You will need to measure the width of your elastic band in order to do that.If you have a 2 inch (5 cm) elastic band, then measure 2 and 5/8 inches up from the rough edge.

Step 18: Use a fabric pen or piece of chalk to mark the measurement.

Measure around the entire fabric loop.

Step 19: Use a zig zag stitch to sew that line.

You can stretch the fabric when you pull on your pants. You should not sew through both sides of the loop if you want to sew between 2 layers of folded fabric.

Step 20: Attach the elastic loop to the fabric loop.

You should stop at the line you just sewed.

Step 21: There is a seam just below the elastic band.

Again, use a zig zag stitch. The elastic band will be closed with this.

Step 22: Put your pants on a table.

If you fold the fabric loop, it will be inside.Pull it over the top of the pants and they will meet.

Step 23: The edges need to be pinned together.

Outside, sides should be touching.

Step 24: There is a seam through the fabric and pants.

A narrow zig zag stitch is used.It is possible to serge the final seam to prevent it from unraveling.

Step 25: Try on your homemade maternity pants.

You can either wear them with or without the fabric tube.
