Some shortening is made from animals and is not vegan.

Most of the shortening in stores today is vegetable shortenings, and it will usually state that on the product.

Palm oil is used in shortening. It is one of the main oils in the shortening.

Depending on whether or not you are okay with consuming palm oil, you can decide whether shortening is or is not vegan.

Butter flavor shortening is still a vegetable shortening.

The butter flavor has "natural and artificial flavor" added. It is impossible to tell from the label if the flavors are derived from dairy or not.

The only one who knows if the glycerides are vegan or not is Crisco, and they did not respond to my email asking about them.
