There is a superhero from the comic book universe that is very popular.If you don't want to spend a lot of money on commercially manufactured claws, you can make your own from wooden and collage board.
Step 1: Take pictures of the measurement.
Measure the length of the hand when it's opened.The side width of the largest finger is also measured.Measure the hand of the intended wearer to ensure the best fit.Write down the length of the hand.Each claw blade should be one and a half times longer.The claw blade should be at least 27 cm long if the hand is 7 inches (18 cm) long.Write down the side width of the largest finger.To match the width of each claw blade at its base, an additional 1 inch is needed.The base of the claw needs to be 2 inches (5 cm) if the largest finger is 1 inch.
Step 2: The curved blade should be sketched on plain paper.
The claw template should have a triangular shape, but each side of it should be slightly curved.The base should be straight.Measure the length and width of the base.Both curves should open in the same way.The top and bottom of the claw will have different edges.
Step 3: A notch can be removed from the base.
Take a look at the top edge of the base.The side width of the largest finger should be the same length as this indentation.The side width of the largest finger is half the depth of this indentation.The undisturbed base at the bottom of the claw should be 1 inch.If you want, you can round off the edges.
Step 4: The template needs to be cut out.
Cut around the perimeter of the template with scissors.
Step 5: Make sure to test and adjust.
Look at the way the template looks with two fingers.Modifications to improve the fit are necessary.Between your fingers, the curve at the base of the claw should sit.The length of the claw should be in balance with your hand.
Step 6: The template can be traced onto cardboard.
The claw template should be placed at the bottom edge of the board.Use a pen to trace around the perimeter of the claw, copying the shape onto the board.The template is on the bottom half of the board.Since you will need the other half later, make sure you only use half of the board.The smooth side of the Collage board makes it an ideal choice.You could use cardboard or foam if you don't have a board.The claws of card stock will be quite flimsy, but they will also be child-safe.
Step 7: The claws have to be cut out.
Cut around the outline of cardboard claws with a utility knife.You can place the board over the mat.If you don't use a cutting mat, the knife can get underneath the board.
Step 8: Each claw needs to be Glued onto more cardboard.
Attach craft glue to the first claw.Press firmly to put it in place, then position it over the bottom edge of the remaining cardboard.Go back and forth with the remaining five claws.All six fit onto the remaining piece of board if they were placed relatively close together.If you use a coated board, leave the smooth side pointing out and stick the rough side together.
Step 9: Let everything dry.
Wait for the glue to dry on the claws.Before you move on to the next step, the two layers should be stuck together.
Step 10: The claws need to be cut out again.
To cut around the perimeter of each claw, use the utility knife to stick to the original edge of the top layer.You should have six double-sided claws when you're done.If the claws feel dry, it's a good idea to place them under a heavy book or similar object for another 30 to 60 minutes.The material should be dried completely flat.
Step 11: Cut down the piece of wood.
There are two lengths of wooden dowel.Each piece should be at least 1/2 inch shorter than the width of the intended wearer's palm.The wooden dowels can be cut with a saw.Sand the edges before you continue.If you don't have a saw, you can use the utility knife to cut four pieces of wood.The length of each piece should be less than that of the palm.
Step 12: Cut a hole through each base.
Use the utility knife to cut through the center of each base.The hole should be about 1/2 inch in diameter.The hole should be in the exact center of the base.If you're using four chopsticks instead of two, you should cut two holes through the base of the claw.After cutting out this hole in the first claw, line it up with the other claw and use a pen to trace the position and dimensions of the hole.It will be easier to keep the hole for all six claws if you cut along this pattern.
Step 13: Through three claws, insert one dowel.
There are three holes in the cardboard.The claws should be placed between the wearer's fingers.If using chopsticks, you need to slide a chopstick through a set of holes.There are three holes in the same set of claws.The bottom width of each finger should be the same amount of space between each claw.The adjustments can be made if the wearer tries on the claw set.With one hand, grab the piece of wood.The claws should be positioned so that one lands between the middle and ring fingers and the other between both the ring and pinky fingers.
Step 14: Do it again.
The next step is the same as the previous one with the second dowel and three claws.
Step 15: Glue everything down.
Hot glue will connect the wooden bar to the claw once everything is positioned correctly.Make the claw set sturdy with generous amounts of glue.Allow the glue to cool and dry.
Step 16: If necessary, paint the claw sets gray.
If you used white board, spray paint both sets.All sides of the sets should be covered.If you used gray board, this step won't be necessary.Allow the first coat of paint to dry.If it isn't opaque enough, add another coat or two and let the paint dry between each coat.
Step 17: The claw sets should be sprayed with silver finish.
After the gray paint has dried, apply several coats of metallic silver spray paint over both claw sets.You should allow the paint to dry in between coats.After each coat, look at the claws to see how they look.
Step 18: Let everything dry.
Set the claws aside in a dry place for another 12 to 24 hours after they feel dry.If the paint is dry before you handle the claws, the exact amount of time doesn't matter.The appropriate amount of time is determined by the instructions on the paint.
Step 19: You can try out the claws.
Your claws should be done.If you want to show them off, grab a set in each hand.
