If you are learning how to use a lace front wig, you will probably be faced with the question of how the lace will blend in with your hair.By applying various products, like freeze spray and gel, you can saturate the lace so that it clings to your hair.It may take a few hours to get your wig perfect, but with time and practice, you will be showing off a gorgeous, natural-looking hairstyle.
Step 1: If you want a layer between the wig and your hair, use a wig cap.
A wig cap can create a surface for the wig itself to stick to, but some people don't like the way they feel. Some wigs have caps built-in.Line up the edge of the wig cap just behind where you want it to be.You can get a wig cap online or from most beauty supply stores.stocking caps are also called wig caps.
Step 2: Line up your wig so that it's where you want it to be.
Check the position of the lace on your forehead from all angles to make sure it looks natural. Some wigs have straps on the inside that may need to be adjusted so the wig is not too tight or loose. If you find it easier to style your wig before you wear it, you may want to do that now.
Step 3: To hold the wig, use a freeze spray under the lace.
Lift the lace front and coat your hair with the freeze spray while you hold the wig in place. If you can, spray it as close to your head as possible. When the spray hits your skin, it's usually very cold.Purchase freeze spray at your local drug store or online.
Step 4: Attach the wig to the spray with blow-dry.
Use the medium- or low-heat setting on your blowdryer, and move it slowly over your wig.As you dry it, press the lace down onto the spray so it sticks together. You may burn your hair if you use high heat.
Step 5: Wrap your hair around for at least 10 minutes.
A wrap strip is a thin, stretchy, crepe-like strip of paper that is used to protect your hair and hold your wig in place while the lace is melting.Line it up so the center of the wrap covers your head and then tie it off at the nape of your neck. This is a great time to get your makeup done, pick out your outfit, or just relax. The wrap strip will not hurt anything if it stays on for a while. Many people leave them in place while they do their hair and makeup, which can take over an hour.Wrap strips can be purchased from beauty and cosmetics stores.
Step 6: The wrap strip should be removed to reveal the lace.
When you are ready, use a pair of scissors to cut through the wrap strip.Pull the lace upward to make sure the wig is sticking to your head.If your wig comes right up when you pull it on, you may want to use more product and repeat the freeze spray steps.
Step 7: The excess lace can be trimmed with a pair of scissors.
Cut as close to your head as possible with a zigzag pattern.Continue cutting away excess lace until you can no longer do it.There may be some small pieces of lace sticking up, but you will take care of those in the next step.A zigzag pattern makes your hair look more natural than a straight cut.
Step 8: Use a pin-tail comb to apply gel along the edges of the lace.
Put a small amount of hair gel on the pin-tail comb. The gel should be pressed down along the edges of the wig's hair.Reapply the gel to the comb as necessary. You can always clean up excess gel with a damp towel if you use small amounts of gel.
Step 9: The gel should be dry with a hairdryer.
After you have melted the rest of the lace, set your hair dryer to medium or low heat and run it over your head.If the gel is still wet or sticky, try to dry it off with your finger.Instead of using the hairdryer, you could apply a second wrap strip for 15-20 more minutes.
Step 10: To clean up excess gel, use a damp towel.
To remove dried gel from your hair, rub a corner of a clean hand towel over it.If you brush downward from your head, you won't mess up your wig. Some gels are clear while others are white. It might take a little longer to wipe away the white gel.
Step 11: Baby hairs can be created with an eyebrow razor and gel.
Pull out a few hairs from your wig with a pin-tail comb.Take a razor and shave your eyebrows, which are about 2 to 1 inch (1.3 to 2.5 cm) long. Then, use gel and an eyebrow brush to mold them. Some people like this look and others don't, so do what feels right to you.
Step 12: To blend in with your skin tone, apply makeup along your head.
If the color of the lace matches your skin tone, it's not necessary. To make the transition from your skin to your hair seamless, use your makeup if the lace is a different shade.Use a small amount of foundation or powder to blend into your hair. You should also check the color of your part.If you want your foundation to match your skin tone, apply it to the part.
Step 13: Use a hot comb to lay down your wig.
The back of a hot comb should be run over the small sections of hair along your part if your wig is too large. If you use medium heat, keep moving the hot comb and don't hold it down in one place.Push the comb down to flatten your hair. The hot comb works better than a straightener because it allows you to push your hair down. The space between your hair and scalp is still there with a straightener.
