It takes a lot of effort to move a pool table. The easiest way to move it around your home is by a group of able-bodied people working together. You will need the help of others, but you will also have the right tools and patience.
Step 1: Pick up four wooden dollies.
The wooden wheeled wonders make it easy to move heavy objects. The edges of your dollies should be wrapped in carpet or fabric. The legs of the pool table can be scratched.
Step 2: You need to position your equipment.
Put your dollies around each corner of the pool table to make it easier to slide them under its legs.Make it difficult to slide the dollies into place if the area around the pool table is cleared.Throw rugs can bunch and hamper the rolling of your dolly, so don't forget to remove them when clearing objects from around/under your pool table.
Step 3: Lift the end of the pool table.
Since pool tables are heavy, a friend can reduce your effort. From one of the longer sides, tilt the pool table.Lift with your legs.
Step 4: Put your dollies in place.
Push the dolly into place beneath the pool table if you are doing this on your own.Dropping your pool table can damage it if you overexert yourself in this maneuver. If you are working with a friend, have him put the dolly in place. You are lifting the legs of the pool table.
Step 5: Be careful with your dollies.
If you raise the other end of the pool table, it will cause it to roll backwards on the dollies you put on it.Lock the wheels or place an object to jam them to prevent this.
Step 6: Place the other end of the pool table in a raised position.
If your friend is ready to slide the dollies into place, then you need to lift the other side of the pool table. The other two dollies should be placed beneath the legs of the table.
Step 7: Prepare to roll by freeing your braced dollies.
The two dollies can be unlocked. You should walk on the path where you plan to wheel your pool table.Measure the doors that you have to pass through and check them against the width of the pool table.Move carpets and other items that could jam the wheels of your dolls.A jammed wheel can cause damage to your table, you, a wall, or one of your possessions.
Step 8: Steady pressure is applied.
The speed at which your table rolls is something you want to control. If your pool table gains too much speed, it will be nearly impossible for you to stop.If you have a friend, you should move the pool table from one corner of the house to the other. If you are doing this on your own, you'll want to take a more central position at the end of the longways side, between the two corner pockets. It will be difficult to turn corners with the weight of the pool table. When moving it through your home, take this into account.
Step 9: There is a set of dollies.
You will want to take the dollies out first.Check the position and alignment of your pool table before you do anything. It will become difficult to move when you take the table off the dollies.
Step 10: Get your dollies.
Lift from the middle of the long side of your pool table and have your friend pull the dollies free. You should lower it to the ground. If you are doing this on your own, you should be able to kick the dollies free and then slowly lower the table to prevent damage. The wheels of the dollies at the opposite side can be unlocked if one set is removed.
Step 11: The pockets should be removed.
Corner pockets and side pockets are included in every pool table.Depending on the design of your pool table, these could be attached to the table in a variety of ways.Attach the pocket to your back with a flathead screwdriver or stapler. You don't have to lie under the pool table to prevent a stable from falling into your eye, but you might want to wear eye protection.
Step 12: Remove the rails.
Chances are good that bolts will hold the rails in place if your table has them. The bolts can be removed with a regular wrench.Remove the rail from the slide. If the rails are attached in sections, you may need a help to flip them over.
Step 13: The felt can be freed.
This is the most delicate part of the process, as a tear to your felt can ruin it.A staple may help prevent damage to the felt if it is held in place by the staple.Glued felt can be gently pulled backwards, never upwards or forwards, taking care not to rip it.If you are going to reuse the felt, fold it up.
Step 14: The slate needs to be separated from the table.
There are screws that hold the slate of the pool table to the frame.A power drill that has been fitted with the right type of bit can be used to remove these. Some screws are used to prevent damage. If this is the case, you should use a flathead screwdriver to remove the slate.
Step 15: You can put the slate in your vehicle.
The integrity of your pool games must be protected by the rock that forms the level surface.Slate can be in a solid piece or three pieces.Pick up the slate from the pool table legs and put it in your vehicle. It's a good idea to stack the pieces of slate on top of each other, but make sure they're fastened correctly and don't damage anything.Wrap your slate in a blanket, cloth, or other covering to make sure it is undamaged.
Step 16: The legs have to be removed.
Taking the legs off the frame shouldn't be a problem since the delicate parts of the pool table have been removed. With a proper bit, your drill will come to your aid again, and soon the legs will be off.
Step 17: The frame needs to be loaded.
You can put the frame on top of the slate.Wrap the finished surface of the table with a cloth or padding to protect it from damage.
Step 18: Take it to its new home.
At this point, any remaining parts should be manageable.Move your table to the new location after loading these parts into your transport vehicle.
Step 19: Look at the new location.
If you want to set up a pool table in this room, you'll need to clear the path that leads to it, and you should take measurements to make sure your table will fit. It's a good way to ruin a perfectly good pool table if you get tripped up by a throw rug.
Step 20: The table should be rebuilt in reverse order.
You will want to make sure your pool table is assembled correctly.Your game will be affected by improper installation.Reassembling your table starts with your frame and legs. For specific issues with leveling, warping, and cracked slate, please see the section on troubleshooting.
Step 21: The slate should be placed there.
Due to its weight, the slate is one of the most delicate pieces in the pool table. The slate on your pool table can be damaged. If you only have to slide it into place, single pieces of slate will be easier to install. For pool tables with three-piece slate parts, set each piece atop the table with space between the pieces.Check to see that the pieces fit together nicely. Are the pins that connect the pieces bent? You may have to go to the hardware store to buy new dowels if that's the case.Place the assembled slate into its place on the table by putting the three slate pieces together.Don't get your hands caught between the pieces of slate. It can cause injury to hands and fingers.
Step 22: Check for twists or frame tension.
You may have caused the frame to shift over the course of your move if it is difficult to deconstruct the old pool table. This could make it difficult to insert the slate. To make sure the frame is still correct, use a level. You can use a carpenter's square to check the corner angles of your table.
Step 23: Take it easy on warps.
Older tables, or tables that have sat in one location for a long time, may have experienced warping or conformed to the natural shape of the home in which it lived. It's possible that you need an additional piece, separate from the parts of the pool table, to balance it out after the table is moved. If you want to balance a rocking pool table, you need to choose a material that won't compress under the weight of it.It's possible to use scrap steel or a sturdy tile.
Step 24: The table needs to be level.
A slight pitch to buildings and pool tables can be used to combat these angles. You can move on to leveling the table after taking care of the frame configuration.Take the level reading if you hold it atop a flat part of the frame.Lift the end if the table isn't level.A friend can adjust the leg.The pool table needs to be set down.If necessary, check the level again.
Step 25: Fix the slate.
Significant damage to the slate of your pool table is likely to require a professional repair or even replacement, but small chips or cracks might be within your ability to mend.If you want to fix small cracks or chips, mix some plaster of Paris and apply it to the area.Sand your patch level after it has hardened.
Step 26: The slate is in a warped frame.
If the entire frame has been warped to the point that the slate now sits in its mounting on an angle, there is little you can do.The slate can be adjusted. After fitting the slate together and fixing any damage, you can use thin wedges of wood to level it.
Step 27: Understand how to handle antique rails.
Special bolts are used to connect the rails to the narrow edge of the slate. The process of removing and attaching the rails of an antique pool table can be done with a T-bolt wrench.
