How to open a jar with a tight lid is genius.
Most of the time, we can open jars of food with little to no problem, a bit of pressure is applied, the seal is broken, and the lid comes off with ease.Occasionally though it just won't budge, even after bringing some serious muscle power to the job, how does one remove them?
If the jar has been opened before and the air-tight seal isn't the problem, it's likely stuck because syrup or sauce has crusted underneath the lid and around the glass rim.If you want to fix this, a hot water soak is the way to go.You may need something for extra grip when twisting. To prevent this from happening in the future, wipe the rim with a damp cloth.
The easiest way to hit the jar is on a towel on the counter. It works every time.
I have been trying to open a jar for a week.I knew it was tighter than most jars because I am a strong person.I did what you told me to do and it opened right away. Thanks for the solution.
I already tried most of the above and Robin said it works every time.
You are my hero. This is the only thing that worked for my husband and I.
Thank you, Robin, for saving me from embarrassment in front of my two female coworkers.I had to go to the bathroom with a jar full of food.
Thank you Robin!I would have gone to bed crying if I hadn't seen this post.
For a few seconds, immerse the jar/bottle in hot boiling water by turning it upside down. The lid will open quickly.
Push the beer can opener under the lid until you hear a noise. The lid will turn easily if you broke the seal.
I try to poke a small hole in the top to release the vaccum. The seal is compromised for things that last a long time in the refrigerator. They can make your fridge smell funky.
That is right auntiepatch! My 16 year old grandson is very busy in the first minutes of his visit with his grandmother.
Thanks for your suggestions.I couldn't open the jar lid because it was so tight.I took some of your ideas and they opened. Thanks again.
There is a piece of inter tube.I used this to open jars and cut my emergency vacuum belts.A washer goes in the part of the hose that connects to the faucet if you cut a seal for the garden hose.Inter tubes are kept for emergencies of all kinds.
Go to your computer to open jars.I use an extra mousepad to open jars.Nothing else works better for me.
I tried everything in the comment room and this was the only thing that worked.
I use the door jam when the lid is small. All you have to do is open the door and put the lid in the jam.Don't crush the lid because leverage is on your side. You can spin the bottle with your other hand.
Rheumatoid arthritis made it difficult to open most jars.Even on the tightest tops, your tip on banging the top with a knife works well. Can't thank you enough.
I spent the better part of a day struggling with the jar.I tried all the things and had no success.I was going to give up and take it back to the store, but I gave it one last chance.
I wrapped masking tape around the lid of the jar and folded it up so that it would have two sticky ends.Nothing will give you better traction.I was able to open it with very little force.
I've had success by setting the jar in ice water and applying heat to the lid. While the lid expands, the jar contracts slightly.
Three jars are sitting on my counter top, laughing at me.I will try some of the suggestions here and if I don't have any luck, they will go to the food bank in hopes that someone else will outwit them.I live in hope.
Thanks for your tips for opening a jar.I opened a jar of mixed nut butter that I was certain was both hermetically and sealed.I tried banging on the lid with a butter knife, running it under hot water, and holding a towel or a potholder, but nothing worked.I have opened many jars with stuck lids using these methods and this one was the worst.I almost decided to return the jar to Trader Joe's for a refund or exchange it for another jar of Mixed Nut butter that opens.I looked online for help and found your site.I followed the directions. It was 1 to 4.After leaving the jar upside-down in a bowl of hot water, it finally opened.
Next time I have this problem, I will try one or more of the other suggestions mentioned by your readers, and see how they work.
I tried all the solutions, but they didn't work.Place towel on floor. The slam jar lid is facing down.2 to 3 times. It was opened.
I had been fighting with a jar of pearl onions for a long time.I tried a rubber grip on the jar, but it didn't work.I read that your grandmother had always tapped the side of the jar with a butter knife. It opened.
Thank you!We had to open a can of primer and glue while we were repairing a pipe in the dark. Both were sealed tight, but the combo of a hairdryer and butter knife did the trick.
I washed the lid with paper towels, wiped the rim of the jar with a dish cloth and put plastic wrap on it after I tried the butter knife and wacked it 3 times.
