Bullet Club of New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) and Ring of Honor promoted All In as an independent professional wrestling pay-per-view.The event took place at the Sears Centre Arena in Illinois.The NJPW World streaming service made the event available for on demand viewing, even though it was broadcasted live on traditional channels.Zero Hour was a pre-show that aired on WGN America.The event featured wrestlers from the National Wrestling Alliance, Impact Wrestling, and Major League Wrestling.
Two of the eleven matches were on the pre-show.The main event of the show was a six-man tag team match which saw The Golden Elite defeat Rey Fénix, Bandido, and Rey Mysterio.In the last match, Marty Scurll was defeated by Kazuchika Okada.On the undercard, Jay Lethal successfully defended the ROH World Championship against Flip Gordon, and Kenny Omega defeated Penta El Zero in a non-title match.
The event was the first non-WWE or World Championship Wrestling promoted professional wrestling event in the United States to sell 10,000 tickets.[5]
In May of last year, a fan asked Dave Meltzer if Ring of Honor could sell 10,000 tickets and he replied "Not any time soon.""I'll take that bet Dave, I took Meltzer's remark as a challenge."The idea evolved from an ROH show to a self-funded event promoted by Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson.Kenny Omega, Brandi Rhodes, and Stephen Amell would be participating in the event.[8]
On December 31, 2017, The Youngbucks announced on their channel, Being The Elite, that they were looking at different venues to hold the event.According to Pro Wrestling Insider, the event was going to be held in Chicago.On January 10, it was announced that the event would take place on September 1.The Sears Centre was revealed as All In's venue on March 5.In the coming weeks, independent wrestlers would be announced to take part in the show, including Deonna Purrazzo and Jay.Starrcast, a fan convention which would feature numerous wrestlers and wrestling and podcast personalities, was announced by Conrad Thompson.During the All In press conference on May 13, it was announced that Rey Mysterio and Nick Aldis would be taking part in the event.[6]
The tickets for the show sold out in less than 30 minutes despite only one match being announced.In the months leading up to the event, All In announced more wrestlers to take part, including Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Madison Rayne, Kota Ibushi, SoCal Uncensored, and Best Friends.A series called All Us was started byCody and The Youngbucks, documenting the lead-up to the event.On July 13, it was announced that Bobby Cruise, Don Callis, Excalibur, Ian Riccaboni, Justin Roberts, and Sean Mooney would serve as All In's broadcast team.Bandido was announced on July 25.On Being The Elite, it was announced that All In's main card would be broadcast on pay-per-view and Fite TV, with an hour-long pre-show called Zero Hour airing on WGN America.The main card of the event would be broadcast on Honor Club later that day.The show was announced on August 6.The show was announced from August 15 to August 18.Brandon Cutler was announced for the show on August 23.The show was announced on August 27.On August 29th, it was announced that All In would be available for on demand viewing.Billy Gunn's son, Austin, was announced for the show on August 31.On September 1, Tim Storm was announced for the show.Wrestler Adam Birch was scheduled to be a producer on the show, but in the early morning hours of September 1 he was arrested in Illinois after police discovered he had an outstanding warrant in Florida.48
There were eleven professional wrestling matches, including two on the Zero Hour pre-show, that involved different wrestlers from existing scripted feuds and storylines.Wrestlers portrayed heroes, villains, or less distinguishable characters in scripted events that built tension and culminated in a wrestling match or series of matches.Storylines were produced on various shows by the promotions, including Being The Elite, the NWA's Ten Pounds of Gold, and All US - The All In Story.
Joey Ryan was killed on Being The Elite by a mystery attacker in a Japanese hotel room.Japanese police arrested Arrow star Stephen Amell for Ryan's murder.On July 16, it was revealed that Christopher Daniels had framed Amell.On Being The Elite, it was announced that Amell, who had recently been released from prison, would face Daniels.Amell warned Daniels that he would put him through a table like he did in Ring of Honor before the final confrontation on Being The Elite.[55]
Billy Corgan, president of the National Wrestling Alliance, announced during the May 13 All In press conference that Nick would defend the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship againstCody.If he won, he and his father would become the first father-son duo to win a world title.During the Honor United tour in London on May 27, it was announced that the match for the World Championship would become a Winner Takes All match.On June 29 at Best in the World, he received his ROH World Championship match, but he failed to capture the title despite the efforts of Aldis.During the June 30 tapings of Ring of Honor Wrestling,Cody received a second title opportunity, but lost again.The match was officially approved by the NWA management on July 31.On September 1, it was announced that Tim Storm would be in the corner.[47]
On June 8 at a WrestlePro event, Madison Rayne and Maxwell Jacob Friedman defeated Flip Gordon and Brandi Rhodes to qualify for All In.A four corners match was announced on the August 7 episode of All Us.[63]
On July 5, it was announced that Marty Scurll would be participating in the event.Scurll began training with Nick Aldis in preparation for the match against Okada.Several wrestlers would dismiss Scurll's chances of defeating Okada over the course of Being The Elite.Scurll stated on Being The Elite that he would defeat Okada.[55]
Joey Janela greeted Matt Jackson and Marty Scurll immediately drawing the ire of Jackson.On July 23, it was announced that Joey Janela would face Hangman Page.Page was going to proclaim himself a Joey Killer later that day.Page had a nightmare with his cowboy boots telling him that he would kill another Joey, referring to Joey Janela.Janela would provoke Page during an autograph session.The match would be a Chicago street fight.71
On July 30, it was announced that Bandido, Rey Fénix and Rey Mysterio would take on The Golden Elite in a six-man tag-team match.On August 27th, Mysterio and Theo Rossi would mock The Youngbucks.[55]
On August 6, it was announced that a tag team match between The Briscoe Brothers and SoCal Uncensored would take place on the Zero Hour pre-show.SoCal Uncensored started training for their match against The Briscoe Brothers.On August 7, it was announced that Jay Lethal would defend the ROH World Championship against the winner of the battle royale.75, 76, and 77
There were two matches on the one-hour-long pre-show, called Zero Hour, which was shown live on WGN America.Road Warrior Animal was brought out by The Young Bucks.Those in attendance were given free Hot Topic and Pro Wrestling t-shirts.
The first match of Zero Hour had a tag-team match between SoCal Uncensored and The Briscoe Brothers.Jay and Mark both performed Froggy Bows on Kazarian during the match.The Briscoes tried to execute a doomsday device on Kazarian, but he reversed into a powerslam to win the match.
The winner of the Over Budget Battle Royale will face Jay Lethal for the ROH World Championship on the main card.Colt Cabana was eliminated by Bully Ray.Bully Ray thought he won, but Flip Gordon in the guise of El Hijo de Chico El Luchador showed up and eliminated him to win the battle Royale and the World Championship opportunity.
The pay-per-view opened with a singles match between Friedman and Cross.Cross executed the shooting star press to win the match.
Christopher Daniels faced Stephen Amell.Daniels pinned Amell with the Best Moonsault Ever to win the match.The two shook hands.
Four people faced off in a four corner survival match.The hammerlock DDT was performed by Blanchard to win the match.Four people embraced after the match.
Nick was defending the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship.As Aldis went to the top rope to perform a diving elbow drop, Brandi Rhodes tried to convince him not to do it.As soon as he jumped, Brandi laid acrossCody, taking the bulk of the hit.He kicked out after being pinned by Aldis.The Beautiful Disaster and Cross Rhodes were performed byCody.Cody hit a vertebreaker on Aldis, but he reversed it.In the end, Aldis tried to steal the finish from Cody, but he was pinned by him.However, he countered into a sunset flip to win the title.The first father-son duo to win the championship was the Rhodes family.
Hangman Page faced Joey Janela in a street fight.Page won the match by performing the Rite of Passage on Janela from the top of a ladder.The lights went out after the match.Men in inflatable penis costumes appeared, but not as druids.Joey Ryan appeared and Page tried to attack him, but Ryan attacked Page and he was carried out of the arena.
Jay Lethal defended the World Championship against Flip Gordon.Lethal wore a black Machismo suit.Gordon performed a Stardust Press on Lethal.Gordon reversed when Lethal tried to perform a diving powerbomb.Lethal Injection on Gordon won the match and retained the title.The two showed respect for each other after the match.Lethal and Gordon were attacked by Bully Ray.The three performed a triple powerbomb on Ray after Colt Cabana appeared to make the save.
Kenny Omega faced Penta El Zero in a singles match.Omega tried to perform the One-Winged Angel.Omega performed the V-Trigger followed by a reverse frankensteiner after Penta tried to perform a lariat.The One Winged Angel was used by Omega to win the match.The lights went out after the match.Omega was attacked with the Codebreaker when they came back on.Omega was challenged to a match at his Rock 'N' Wrestling Rager at Sea cruise by a second Penta El Zero, who revealed himself as Chris Jericho.
In the last match, Marty Scurll faced Kazuchika Okada in a singles match.In the end, Scurll provoked Okada and tried to break his fingers, but he reverted into the Rainmaker and won the match.
The Golden Elite (Kota Ibushi, Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) faced Bandido, Rey Fénix and Rey Mysterio in a six-man tag team match.Bandido hit Matt Jackson.Nick Jackson hit Bandido.The Young Buck hit a kick on both of them.The more bang for your buck was performed by Ibushi and The Youngbucks.Bandido was pinned by Ibushi.The Meltzer Driver was performed by The Young Bucks to win the match.
Several people left Ring of Honor four months after the event.They rejected the reported offers of the contracts that they purportedly offered.Double or Nothing was the inaugural event of All Elite Wrestling (AEW), which was founded by The Youngbucks and backed by billionaires Shahid and Tony Khan.[83]
