Pétanque is a game where the goal is to toss hollow metal balls and get as close to a small wooden target ball as possible. If you want to have a good time with your friends and family, this is a great game to play.Pétanque is fun for all ages and skill levels. You can score points for your team with a little practice.
Step 1: Two teams are split up.
Pétanque is played by two teams.Which players will be on which team? Two players per team is one of the ways you can play. The players get three boules. The most common way to play is this. There are three players per team. The players get two boules. One against one.The players get three boules.
Step 2: The boules should be given to the members of each team.
They should be the right size and material.Pétanque boules should be metal and weigh 1.5 pounds. The jack is 1.25 inches in diameter and is a target ball.
Step 3: Wherever you are playing the game draw a circle on the ground.
The circle should be at least 50 cm in diameter.Whenever a player is playing, they must stand in the circle with their feet on the ground.
Step 4: To find out which team goes first, flip a coin.
Before the coin is thrown, one team calls heads or tails. If the coin lands on the other side, that team goes first.
Step 5: A member of the first team is going to throw the jack.
The jack can be thrown in any direction. It should be at least 3 feet away from any object that might interfere with a player's swing, and between 20-33 feet from the circle.
Step 6: The first boule should be thrown by a member of the same team after throwing the jack.
They should try to get their boule close to the jack by standing in the circle.
Step 7: A member of the second team can throw a boule.
The goal of the second team is to get their boule closer to the jack. They will either point or shoot, trying to hit the opponent's boule away from the jack. The team with the closest boule will have the point if the second team succeeds.Team B would have to toss another boule if it didn't land closer to the jack than Team A did. This would continue until they get a boule close to the jack or run out of boules.
Step 8: When the throwing team gets the point, change teams.
If a member of Team A tosses a boule and it lands closest to the jack, it will be Team B who throws. If Team B tosses a boule and it lands closer to the jack than Team A's, then they have gained the point. The teams are out of the water.
Step 9: Keep going until both teams have thrown their boules.
This is the end of the round. The other team throws their remaining boules if one team uses all of them first. All of the boules of both teams have been thrown.
Step 10: The winning team's score should be counted.
The team with the best boule wins the round. The winning team gets one point for each boule that is closer to the jack than the losing team. The losing team has no points.
Step 11: Start the next round.
The team that won the last round draws a circle on the ground around the place where the jack was.The jack is also thrown out.All players must stand in the new circle to toss their boules. The team that won the previous round goes first.
