It might not be clear to you how to pick it.You don't really need to harvest your leaves if you have a container and a pair of shears. If you want to eat your delicious and healthy kale, cut just the older leaves.
Step 1: Wait about 70 days after planting to harvest.
This is how long it takes a plant to produce its first leaves. Before you harvest its leaves, your plant should be around 20 cm high. The plant will have difficulty maturing if you pick too many baby leaves.
Step 2: Get a clean container.
Pruning shears make harvesting a lot easier. They can be purchased at any gardening or home improvement store. You can put the leaves in a bucket, basket, or bag.
Step 3: Cut the leaves with your shears.
The oldest leaves are near the bottom of the plant. There are younger leaves near the top.You want to cut the leaf with one hand.Use your other hand to cut that leaf's stem.To remove the entire leaf, cut the stem near the base.
Step 4: There are leaves that are yellow or damaged.
There are small holes in the leaves when pests eat them.Keep the leaves separate from the ones you want to use.Either compost or throw away the damaged leaves.
Step 5: The root of the plant should not be cut.
Make sure you leave the plant intact when you harvest it.You should only cut the stems of the leaves that you want to pick.
Step 6: Pick the new large leaves when you return.
It needs to be done frequently. The plant could be eaten by pests if you don't harvest for more than a week. The older leaves help the younger leaves grow. There should be more large leaves that are ready to be picked after about a week.Pick these and don't pick the small leaves on the plant.
Step 7: It's Wash.
If you want to remove dirt from the water, run the kale under it.If you don't plan to eat the stems, remove them now.Do not use hot water or soak the leaves.
Step 8: Let the leaves dry.
To absorb some of the water on them, Pat them with a paper towel.Allow them to air dry on a clean surface for at least 10 minutes. Before storing them, make sure they are completely dry. When they are wet, they will quickly become slimy.
Step 9: The leaves should be placed in a bag.
Place a paper towel in the bag to keep the leaves from getting wet. Before you seal the bag, try to get as much air out of it as you can.Put the bag in the vegetable drawer of the refrigerator.Pick a low shelf in your refrigerator if you don't have a vegetable drawer.
Step 10: The leaves can be used within 1-2 weeks.
Until it becomes yellow, wilted, or slimy, the kale is good.If you want to make a salad with some of your favorite vegetables, you can mix the kale with them.
