There is nothing more frustrating than looking down and seeing a crease in your boots. If your boots are made of synthetic materials, you should keep the crease from forming in the first place. If you treat your shoes right and use boot trees when you are not wearing them, the only reason for your boots to get wrinkled is if they don't fit you.If this is the case, your shoes will keep wrinkling no matter how many times you remove them.
Step 1: It's a good idea to apply a waterproof product to your boots.
If your shoes are leather, you should get a wax.Get a spray for boots made of plastic, synthetic, or vinyl.Either spray your boots with a thin layer of waterproofing spray or work the wax into them by hand. The more water you keep off of your boots, the less likely they are to crease. It won't do a lot for winter boots. The majority of winter boots are designed to handle the amount of water in the snow.
Step 2: To prevent damage, Rub leather conditioner into boots.
Leather conditioner will coat your boots in a protective layer and make them less likely to crease, even though it won't give you as much protection from water.Use a clean cloth to work the conditioner directly into the leather. The conditioner should be applied every 6 months to keep your boots clean.Leather conditioner is an oil that coats your boots and keeps them from drying out.You should choose a product for your leather boots based on how often you wear them in the rain, as it is not as good at the latter.
Step 3: If your boots are leather, keep them dry.
If you wear your boots in the rain, walk over or around puddles, avoid stepping in a gutter, and bring an umbrella to protect your feet. The more water you have, the better!Water can cause the natural oils in leather to dry out if it gets into the boots. If the weather gets nasty, you may want to save your nicer boots for the nicer weather.
Step 4: To give your boots a break, alternate between multiple pairs of shoes.
Your boots are more likely to crease if you wear them every single day, because they need a break every once in a while.Wear your boots only a few times a week to avoid wrinkling.Keep your shoes from getting worn out by alternating between your favorite pair and another 1-2 sets of shoes. It is a sign that your boots are not well made or that they don't fit right.
Step 5: Put your boots on and take them off with a shoe horn.
A shoe horn is a thin piece of plastic or wood that protects the heels on your shoe when you put them on or take them off.To put your boots on, use the curved edge of your shoe to slide your foot in.To remove the boots, slide the horn between your ankle and heel. When you put your shoes on or take them off, the shoe horn protects the heel from bending. This stops the back half of your boots from wrinkling. It can also prevent the toes from wrinkling, since the boots will be more sturdy.
Step 6: When you aren't wearing boots, put boot trees in them.
Before putting your boots away, slide a boot tree into each foot.Since your boots won't lose their shape, this will cut down on wear and tear. When you aren't wearing your boots, boot trees help keep their shape. They are basically the same thing as shoe trees. The heel portion of the tree is taller and thicker than the rest.
Step 7: If you don't have boot trees, Stuff your boots with newspaper.
Stuff your boots with newspapers if you don't want to buy a set of boot trees. This will work just like a boot tree, with the added benefit of absorbing water that gets trapped in your boots. You can cut a pool noodle with a utility knife.
Step 8: It's a good idea to keep socks in your boots to save space.
If you are taking your boots on the road, packing boot trees will take up a lot of space.Roll up your socks and put 1-2 pairs inside of your boots to help them keep their shape. This will help keep your boots crease-free in your bag.Throw socks in a plastic bag after you put them in your boots. It will keep dirt from rubbing off on your clothes.
Step 9: If you want to reduce the risk of creasing, buy non-leather boots.
If you are looking at a new pair of boots, skip the leather. If they are on the thicker side, silk, felt, fur, and plastic-vinyl boots are less likely to crease.
Step 10: If you want to avoid natural creases, buy boots that fit perfectly.
Buy boots that fit your foot. For boots, your feet should fit snug, but comfortable, and the ball of your foot should sit at the widest part of the shoe.If you have a lot of space between the tips of your toes and your boots, they will crease when you walk.It is possible to shrink your boots down a size if they are too big.
Step 11: Steel-toe boots are more likely to crease at all.
Steel-toe boots are great if you are just going out for a walk in the cold. The reinforced metal in the front of the toe can cut down on the chances of a crease.
Step 12: You can keep their shape by putting newspaper inside of their boots.
You can iron the crease out if your shoes are made of nubuck, leather, or suede.Put your shoes on the ironing board and fill them with newspaper. If your shoes aren't made out of leather, you can use boot trees to rest your boots for a month to see if the crease is gone.People report success with a soap massage. There aren't a lot of great options for plastic or vinyl. If you iron your shoes with those inside, you can burn your wood boot trees.Plastic boot trees can end up melting.
Step 13: Set the iron to medium heat by filling it with water.
Bring your iron's steam tank with you.To set your iron vertically, turn the iron on to medium heat.Wait 1-2 minutes for your iron to heat up.
Step 14: Put a moist cloth over the crease.
Pull out your laces when you untie your boots. The laces should be left alone to not be damaged by the iron.If you want to soak it, take a clean cloth and hold it under water.Put the excess water out and fold the cloth in half.Place it over the crease on your boot.If both of the boots are creased, use two cloths to cover them.
Step 15: Use a liberal amount of steam to iron the cloth.
If you have a nondominant hand, put your first boot at the heel.Press the steam button while sliding the iron back and forth over the cloth. For 30 seconds, remove each crease. The more steam you get the better. As you heat it up, you'll be able to stretch the area out.The crease will be softened and removed completely.
Step 16: Allow the leather to cool for 45 minutes.
Let the warm cloth on top of your boots cool for 45 minutes. The crease should be gone because the boots absorb the moisture.Continue this process if the creases are still there after 45 minutes. You can do this many times without damaging your boots. If you do this a lot, the oils in the leather will go away and your boots will start cracking.
