How To Put Up a Hammock

You have to hang your hammock up before you can lay down. You can use trees or walls to support your hammock. It is important that you use the right tools to hang your hammock. When you get in, make sure your hammock is hung up high enough so that you don't rest on the ground.

Step 1: You should find 2 trees to hang your hammock on.

Avoid trees that are young and thin.Try to find two trees that are the same distance from each other.Your body will be resting on the ground if the trees are closer together than that.If the distance between 2 trees is greater than the length of your hammock, you can use chains or rope to reach it.It could rip if you go over 18 inches on each side.

Step 2: Wrap each tree with a tree strap.

The tree straps have a loop on one end and a metal ring on the other. The trees you hang your hammock on can get damaged if you don't use tree straps.Wrap a tree strap around one of the trees you found and then pass the metal ring through the loop.Attach a second strap to the other tree.At your local outdoor supplies store, you can find tree straps.

Step 3: The ends of the hammock have tree strap rings on them.

Attach the rings with either carabiners or S-hooks.Make sure the hooks you use are strong. Before buying hooks, make sure to check the packaging to see how much weight they hold, and get hooks that will hold at least your body weight.

Step 4: The height of your hammock can be adjusted.

Hang your hammock up the trunk of the tree if you are using a hammock with spreader bars.If you use a hammock without spreader bars, hang it up the tree. The hammock should be at the right height when the tree straps are removed from the base of the trees. The tree straps should be raised if your body is resting on the ground.

Step 5: You can hang your hammock between the walls.

The length of your hammock should be between the walls.Studs in the walls can support the weight of the hammock. If you have a hammock that is too big for two walls, hang it on the other wall.

Step 6: The stud finder can be used to find the studs.

If you want to hang your hammock from a wall, you need to hold the stud finder against one of the walls.Wait for the stud finder to stop flashing if you press the calibrate button.Slowly move the stud finder across the wall. When the stud finder is on, stop moving it and mark the spot with a pencil.Go to the other wall.Make sure the spot is not a false reading by testing it a few times with the stud finder. You can get a stud finder at the hardware store.

Step 7: Each wall has a hole drilled into it at the same height.

Make sure the holes are deep enough to hold a screw. If your hammock has spreader bars that keep it open, drill the holes between 4-5 feet high.If your hammock doesn't have spreader bars, drill the holes between 8 and 12 feet high.

Step 8: Attach the heavy-duty eye bolts to the holes.

Eye bolts are designed to carry heavy loads.Make sure the eye bolts are strong enough to hold your body weight. When the screw part on the bolt is completely in the hole, twist each eye bolt clockwise.

Step 9: Attach the ends of your hammock to the eye bolts with an S-hook.
