Using a pencil to put your hair up is a great way to try out new hair styles. There are a number of ways to put your hair up with a pencil. You can use a pencil to hold your hair in a simple bun, create a messy inverted pencil bun if you have longer hair, or get a bit more creative with braided pencil buns.
Step 1: Put your hair in a ponytail.
To gather your hair in the back of your head, use your hands.Wrap your thumb under the bottom of your finger and hold your hair in a ponytail. If you want the pencil to not poke you, you have to hold the ponytail in the center of your head and not below.
Step 2: To make a bun, wrap your hair around the center.
Wrap your hair around the center base with one hand and hold the ponytail in place with the other.Once you wrap your hair around once or twice, you can remove the hand that is holding the ponytail.Put one of your hands over the bun to hold it in place. If you want the bun to be tighter, you need to hold the ponytail out straight and twist it a few times before wrapping it around the base.
Step 3: Put a pencil in the bun.
Take your pencil and place it on the left or right side of the top bun.Place it in the bun on either the left or right side.Push the pencil through the middle of the bun.Push the pencil through until it comes out of the bun.You can adjust the pencil to fit on either side of the bun by pushing it further in.
Step 4: If you want a clean, sleek bun, Tuck in any loose hairs.
Wrap the loose hairs around the base of the bun.Push the ends of the hairs up under the bun to hold it in place. You can skip this step if you want to go for a more relaxed pencil bun look. The bobby pin can be used to secure loose ends.
Step 5: Put your hair in a ponytail.
You can gather your hair at the nape of your neck with your hands. To create a loop around your hair, wrap your thumb under the bottom and your pointer finger over the top of it.
Step 6: You should wrap your hair around the pencil.
The pencil should be held on the left side of the ponytail with the sharp end pointing in towards you.Wrap your hair around the pencil and leave the ends unwrapped. If you have long hair, you may only need to wrap it around the pencil once.If you have long hair, you may have to wrap it around twice. If you want your bun to be a bit messier, you can leave more of your hair out.
Step 7: Make sure the point is facing straight down by rotating the pencil.
The end of your hair should be left unwrapped so that the pencil can't point down.As you rotation the pencil clockwise, the sharpened end will push down into the bun.
Step 8: Push the pencil into the hair.
Push the pencil down slowly through the twist until the bun holds in place. To get the pencil to hold in place, you will need to push it down about 1 inch.If you push the pencil down before it comes out the bottom, it will not poke you in the neck.If you want a cleaner look, you can use bobby pins to secure loose hair in an inverted pencil bun.
Step 9: Your hair should be in a ponytail in the center of your head.
You can gather your hair at the bottom of the back of your head by using your hands.Make a loop with your finger and thumb to hold your hair in a ponytail.
Step 10: Wrap your hair around your face.
Just below the nape of your neck is where you should hold the pencils. The end of the pencil is on the left side of your head, the other end is pointing to the right.Wrap the ponytail around the pencils twice.Instead of pencils, you can use chopsticks.
Step 11: Put the pencils down to secure the style.
Push the ends of the pencils towards the top of your head.If you want to get more hair, you have to push the pencils into the bun.The bun will be secure once the pencils stick out the bottom. You can push the pencils straight down for a more uniform look, or you can flip them in opposite directions as you push down into the bun.
Step 12: It's braided.
Divide your hair into 3 equal-sized sections.Next, braid your hair above the nape of your neck.Hold the braid in place with a hair tie.Put your hair into a ponytail first and secure it with a hair tie if you want your braided bun to be tighter.Next, braid the ponytail and secure the end with a hair tie.
Step 13: Attach the braid to your head.
Take the end of the braid and hold it up.If you want to roll the braid in towards your head, you have to coil it inward and tuck the end in on top of it.You can hide the hair tie within the pencil bun by rolling the braid in towards your head.
Step 14: Take your pencil and put it in the braid.
To get the hair, push the pencil into the braid. You should stop pushing when the pencil reaches the top of your head. Then, use the pencil to secure your hair.Push the pencil into the braid to secure the bun.Depending on how tightly your hair is braided, you may be able to rotation the bun until the pencil is vertical with the sharpened end straight down. Both options will look great.
