Keep an eye out for signs of terrorist groups and keep your ears open for threats of lone-wolf violence in your community. If you see signs of terrorist activity, you can call emergency services or contact your local police department.
Step 1: Be on the lookout for covert snooping.
Information about a potential target is gathered by terrorists.Monitoring or recording a security apparatus raises a red flag.If you see someone with a camera on their phone, binoculars, or camera, be alert. You should be suspicious if you see someone drawing diagrams, blueprints or detailed maps.If someone is trying to hide what they are doing, be suspicious. There are many reasons a person might be taking a picture, drawing a floor plan, or using binoculars, but there are few good reasons to hide them. When someone is taking pictures of mundane objects, such as entrances, exits, or security cameras, notice when they are not related to maintenance work. There are security tests. If you notice someone leaving a bag, then coming back to check on it, they might be looking at the security operations of the place.
Step 2: Resist and report.
The use of ordinary communications methods to get sensitive information islicitation. If you have any information about military operations, capabilities, security procedures, or vulnerabilities, report anyone who tries to engage you in conversation on those points.Don't speak of anything sensitive to eavesdroppers.Questions about security should be reported.Information about mall guards, campus safety, and transport police could all be used.
Step 3: There is a notice for stockpiling.
If you notice someone you know buying explosives, weapons, or bomb-making materials at a store you frequent, you may be witnessing a potential terrorist.Bomb-making supplies can be the same as beauty supplies.Purchasing small amounts of something not immediately lethal isn't a sign of stockpiling.Stockpiling occurs when large quantities are accumulated.Unusual forms of payment are notice. If a person is buying supplies with a card that holds a lot of money, they may have gotten it from a larger terrorist organization.A stockpile can be recognized. If you find a store of goods hidden in an unusual place, such as a field or an abandoned building, you should report it.
Step 4: There are people who seem nervous and out of place.
Someone who is sweating, looking around nervously, or acting panicked may have violent intent.Be suspicious of anyone who seems out of place, who doesn't seem to know anyone in a social space, or who is wearing a uniform that is not quite right. It's a good idea to be suspicious of anyone trying to purchase military or police uniforms, decals, flight manuals, passes or badges, as these may be used to access secure locations.
Step 5: Impersonators, recognize them.
People who seem out of place, workers in incomplete uniforms that don't fit, and anyone presenting false or incomplete documents are some of the people you should look out for.If someone can't prove they're authorized to enter, you should report it.
Step 6: The attire and posture of a suicide bomber should be recognized.
The US government refers to a suicide bomber as ALERT.Alone and anxious.Report someone who is alone and seems nervous.L is not compatible with weather conditions. If you see someone who is overdressed or has something hidden under their clothes, report them. There are wires that are exposed. There are wires sticking out of clothing.R is a rigid mid-section.Some terrorists sit upright if they wear an explosives belt or harness.Alert the authorities if you see someone with unnatural posture who has other signs of ALERT.Tightened hands.A person with tightened hands may be holding a detonation device.Report someone who is in this posture.
Step 7: There is a chemical odor or burn.
People missing fingers, or who smell like chemicals, may be experimenting with explosives. If someone is making frequent trips to remote places and returning with chemical burns or chemical odors, notice.A motor-oil smell is one of the three common chemical odor smells.
Step 8: People feel damaged by political developments.
Listen carefully if you hear a friend or family member complain that they have been unfairly treated by political events that are remote.80% of future lone wolves are known to take politics personally, and claim that they have been wronged enough that violence would be justified."Because we have a black president, a white man can't get a job in this country." is an example of an irrational claim. This is not to be confused with a person who has been affected by a law and is disappointed.A small business owner who has experienced a tax increase might say "I'm angry that our senator did not fight harder to protect my ability to compete with the big box stores."There is no sign of terrorist intent if the complaint is not followed by a threat.
Step 9: When a lone wolf broadcasts their intent, be aware.
If you see a message on social media that suggests an individual is thinking of violence, you should report it.There can be threats against others as well as suicide threats.Don't let anyone tell you that violence is necessary or rational. When an attack is imminent, it is very common for a lone wolf to make a public announcement.Political and personal complaints that are followed by veiled threats should be reported immediately."My girlfriend left me because women are too free" is an example. They think they can get an abortion or divorce whenever they want.Someone needs to send a strong message and put them all back in their place.
Step 10: There are people who claim affinity with extremists.
White supremacist groups, anti-abortion groups and foreign terrorist groups are some of the groups that lone wolves praise.
Step 11: Don't look at the weapons.
If there is an illegal store of weaponry in your community, you should report it.If you know of someone who has assault rifles and other weapons that can be used to kill large groups of people, you should file a report.Someone should be reported if they are building or assembling explosives.
Step 12: A profile.
White males with a criminal record are the majority of lone wolf terrorists.Isolation from society and signs of mental illness are common. It's not every lone wolf that fits this profile. If you choose to report a suspicious person, make sure to mention if they fit the profile of a lone wolf terrorist.
