How to Remove Burn Marks from Granite and Solid Surface Countertops.
Any kitchen can have granite countertops.A hot pan or pot can leave a mark on the surface of granite. If you want your countertop to look as good as new, you need to treat the burn marks.Burn marks can be treated with mild soap and water or with a homemade granite-safe poultice using just a few basic ingredients.
As the granite cools, the burn mark can be easily cleaned with soap and water. To start, wipe down the countertop with a squirt of mild dish soap on a damp soft cloth or sponge. After rinsing the cloth or sponge, pat it dry with a soft cloth. If the mark disappears, your work is done and you can look at your countertop again. If you need to make a poultice to treat the spot, it will take a little bit longer than the soap and water method, but is an easy and effective way to remove burn stains.
Some burn marks are harder to remove from granite than others. If the burn mark came from a cigarette, incense or any substance that may have left a burnt mark on the granite, use a poultice to remove the stain. You can make a poultice at home.
To cover the burned area, pour enough flour in a bowl. You may need to use more than you think.
Add hydrogen peroxide to your flour with a plastic scraper. The mixture should have a thick consistency of peanut butter.
The paste should be spread over the burn mark.To ensure that the entire burn will be lifted, spread the paste a quarter of an inch beyond the discolored area.
Put the paste in the plastic wrap and poke a few holes. To poke the holes, use a toothpick, kebab skewer or kitchen utensil.
Put painter's tape on the edges of the plastic wrap. After 24 hours or once the paste dries, remove the plastic wrap and tape from the burn mark.
