Leather shoes can have a smelly odor over time. There are a few options to choose from when it comes to removing odor from leather shoes. If you want to remove the odor from the shoes, you can use baking soda and tea tree oil to clean them.Black tea bags have natural tannins that can kill leather shoes. If you want to clean the insides of your leather shoes, you can use a commercial spray disinfectant.
Step 1: The tea tree oil should be put in a spray bottle.
Add 5 drops of tea tree oil to the spray bottle. To mix it, shake the bottle. If you don't have tea tree oil, you can use white vinegar and water as a spray.Apple cider vinegar can stain the leather.
Step 2: The mixture should be sprayed onto the cloth.
Don't saturate the paper towel or rag with your cleaning solution if you want to damp it.You only apply a thin layer of the solution if you wring out the cloth first.Don't use a cloth that's been dyed.Leather shoes can be discolored by some of the color.
Step 3: The cloth can be used to wipe the inside of the shoes.
Work the cloth on the insides of the shoes. All the way to the front of the toe box, along the sides, as well as the insoles, need to be cleaned.Lift the tongue of the shoe to wipe the inside of it.
Step 4: The shoes should be dry with a clean cloth.
After wiping the cloth with the cleaning solution, use a dry cloth to wipe the inside of the shoes.Make sure the insides of the leather shoes aren't damp, as this could damage them or allow new bad smells to develop. You want the new cloth to be clean and dry.You can wipe the inside of the shoes with a dry paper towel.
Step 5: Baking soda is put into each leather shoe.
Add the baking soda to the inside of the leather shoes and shake them well after you have wiped up the excess cleaning solution.Make sure the powder goes down to the toe and coats the inside of the leather shoes.Shake the shoes again if the baking soda doesn't cover the insides of them.Baking soda is good at absorbing odors.
Step 6: Allow the shoes to sit for a night.
Leave the leather shoes undisturbed for 8 hours or overnight with the cleaning solution and baking soda inside. If the smell has been removed, smell them again in the morning. If you don't plan to leave them overnight, set a timer for 8 hours. You don't need to clean the leather shoes before you wear them because the vinegar has evaporated and dried. Before you wear your shoes, use a vacuum to remove any leftover baking soda.
Step 7: Black tea bags should be placed in hot water.
The hot water should be brought to a boil and then removed from the heat.Allow your black tea bags to soak in the water for 5 minutes. You can use 1 teabag for each shoe. The timer should be set for 5 minutes. The black tea needs to be steeped in order to work.
Step 8: Let the tea bags cool after removing them from the water.
Place the bags of tea on the plate.Allow them to cool for a while so you can pick them up.Black tea bags have strings on them that allow you to remove them without burning yourself in the hot water. If the tea bags have strings on them, use a fork or tongs to remove them from the water.
Step 9: Each shoe has a tea bag inside.
When the tea bags are cool enough that you can pick them up, place one of them into the leather shoe at the halfway point so that the water can reach the insides of the shoe. The tea bag has juice in it.
Step 10: The shoes should sit for 2 hours.
Leave the leather shoes undisturbed for 2 hours so the tea bag can be used to remove the odor.Don't move or touch the shoes until they've been cleaned. You don't have to worry about checking on them if you set a timer for 2 hours.
Step 11: Remove the tea bags and wipe the leather shoes dry.
Take the leather shoes out and throw them away after the tea bags have been allowed to sit.Take a dry cloth or paper towel and wipe down the insides of the shoes to remove any excess tea bags.If the smell persists, try repeating the process again to get rid of it.
Step 12: To make sure the spray is safe for leather shoes, check the packaging.
Look for a product that says it is safe to use on leather shoes. There are sprays that can stain or damage leather shoes. At drug stores, department stores and online, you can find spray Disinfectant designed to clean leather shoes. If the product is safe to use on leather boots, then it can be used in leather shoes.
Step 13: There are leather shoes.
At a time, use the spray on each shoe.If you want the spray to cover the entire shoe, hold the shoe upside down and aim the nozzle into the toe.To coat the leather shoes, spray for 3-4 seconds.
Step 14: Allow the shoes to dry for 5 minutes and then smell them.
It will take a few minutes for the spray disinfectant to dry.Give the leather shoes a good smell when they are dry.If the smell is still there, apply the spray again. It is possible to repeat the process as many times as necessary, but be sure to allow the leather shoes to fully dry between applications. That way, the leather won't cause it to warp.
