How to remove the cylinder from a door knob.
A full line of door lockset, deadbolts and related hardware is manufactured by Kwikset.A single cylinder deadbolt is an attractive, compact lock that adds security to an exterior door.A Kwikset deadbolt can be found in a variety of finishes and is easy to install.
To mark the deadbolt centerline, use a tape measure and pencil.Deadbolts are usually installed 6 to 8 inches above the lever location.
Put the layout template against the door's edge aligned with the centerline by folding it.The deadbolt cylinder and the slide bolt hole on the edge of the door should be designed. To score the door's surface, push through the deadbolt template with an awl or center punch.
Use a drill and a hole saw to bore the deadbolt cylinder hole. The hole should be Aligned with one of the center lines marked on the door face and bore until it penetrated the opposite door side.To minimize splintering of the door face, remove the hole saw and cut from the opposite side.
The door has a slide bolt hole.Align the bit horizontally on the point marked for the slide bolt center.Penetrate the door until the cylinder hole is reached.
The slide bolt assembly needs to be inserted into the hole drilled in Step 4.Use a utility knife to align the face plate with the door's edge.
The slide bolt's face plate can be cut using a wood chisel. The face plate should fit flush with the edge surface if the mortise is cut deep.
Attach the slide bolt to the door edge with the two screws provided.
Attach the flat key tab bar to the slide bolt and position the deadbolt's exterior lock cylinder over the exterior cylinder hole.
Put the thumblatch assembly against the interior door surface, and put the flat key tab bar into the matching slot in the slide bolt.
Two machine bolts are inserted through the latch base plate and screwed into the exterior lock cylinder to secure it to the door. The machine screws need to be tightened until they are snug.
The slide bolt's centerline can be marked by closing the door and turning the thumb latch.
The deadbolt's strike plate should be centered on the centerline marked in Step 11.To mark the strike plate's outer edge and inside edge of the bolt hole, use a pencil.
