How To Remove the Hood from a Hoodie

Cut off the hood if you're tired of that hoodie or just want to update the style. You will have a sweatshirt with a simple neckline if you remove the hood. That's all!If you want to make a sweatshirt with a collar, leave extra fabric around the neck and use a sewing machine. The collar can be folded or stuck up for a casual look.

Step 1: The front of the hoodie should be facing up.

The hood should be spread away from the body. You don't want to cut into the hoodie's body.Don't work on carpeted areas because you could cut into them if you remove the hood.

Step 2: To make a round neckline, cut around the entire hood above the seamline.

Take a pair of scissors and cut along the base of the hood to remove it.It's important to cut above the seamline to prevent the stitches from unraveling.Cut from the front of the hood to the other side.Since you can't see if you're cutting through the bottom seam, you should use a different type of cutter. The scrap of fabric can be used for another sewing project.

Step 3: If you want to change the neckline, cut a V-shape on the sweatshirt.

Cut a straight vertical line down the center of the neckline if you want it to have a V-neck.You can cut down as you please. To make a V-shape, cut 2 diagonal lines from the base of the neckline to the sides.A 5 in vertical line is needed to cut a deep V-neck.Cut the vertical line to create a V-neck.

Step 4: If you want to prevent it from fraying, zig-zag stitch along the raw edge.

Take your sweatshirt to your sewing machine if you want a more finished look. You can sew directly along the raw edge by adjusting your settings. The fabric shouldn't be torn if you sew around the entire neckline.Leave the raw edge exposed if you like the casual look.As you wash and dry the sweatshirt, keep in mind that the edge will be torn.

Step 5: You can make an off-the-shoulder sweater by folding the sweater and cutting across the neck.

Once you've cut the hood off, fold the sweater in half vertically and use chalk to mark a diagonal line that's at least 2 inches away from the neckline. You can open the sweater if you cut along this line.If the sweatshirt falls on your shoulders, try it on.If that doesn't happen, take it off and cut off another inch from the neckline.

Step 6: The front of the hoodie needs to face up.

Pull the hood away from the body. The hood meets the body of the sweater in the seam. This is a starting point for your measurements.

Step 7: 3 or chalk 4 marks are above the seam of the hood.

Measure 3 inches above the seam with a ruler. On the opposite side of the hood, mark the fabric with chalk. You can make a mark on the back of the hood by flipping over the hoodie. If you want a narrow collar, mark at about 2 inches instead of 3 inches. If you have tailor's chalk, use it since it won't smudge like standard chalk.

Step 8: To connect the chalk marks, draw a horizontal line.

Put your ruler in a horizontal position so it passes through some of the marks you made.To connect them, draw a horizontal line.Make the line around the entire hood by moving your ruler. It's important to make the line so your collar isn't tilted.

Step 9: To remove the hood, cut along the horizontal line.

Take a pair of scissors and cut along the chalk line on the hood.As you go around the hood, keep cutting along the line until you reach the opposite side.Save the hood for another sewing project.

Step 10: The collar should be folded over by a total of 1 inch.

Take the raw edge and fold it over to the inside of the hoodie.By folding it over 1 more times, it will be 1.9 cm.Place sewing pins through the folded fabric to keep the collar in place. The raw edge is completely hidden when the fabric is folded a few times.

Step 11: To secure the collar, straightstitch across the folded edge.

Start at the front of the hoodie and work your way up to the collar. Then, sew around the corner to the opposite side of the front. This finishes the edges of your collar. If you want your hoodie to blend in, choose a thread color that matches your shirt.Pick a thread color that matches the hoodie to make the topstitch stand out.Pick a bright green or white thread if the sweater is black with a neon green logo.Pick black thread if you want the thread to blend in.
