How To Repair a Shoe Sole

The first part of a shoe is the soles. If the rest of the shoe is in good shape, repairing the sole can be an easy way to make your shoes new.You can replace worn-out soles or fix holes or loose soles in a few minutes with a little sandpaper and shoe sole glue.

Step 1: Use pliers to remove the old sole.

You will need pliers to remove the sole from the shoe.Pull the sole away from the bottom of the shoe by using pliers. If the sole doesn't come off easily, try wedging a paint scraper or butterknife between it and the shoe as you pull on it with pliers. It will be easier to remove the glue that is attached to the sole if you use a heat gun or hair dryer.

Step 2: Use acetone to clean off old glue.

There may still be glue remnants on the bottom of your shoe.Put a little acetone or nail polish remover on a rag and scrub the bottom of your shoe. The glue should be wiped off. It's a good idea to clean any dirt off the shoe.

Step 3: The new sole and the bottom of the shoe should be roughed up.

Smooth surfaces hold together better with glue.If you want to scratch up the bottom of the shoe, use 120-grit sandpaper.

Step 4: The new sole should be applied with a brush or cotton ball.

Follow the instructions on how to apply it.Before the item can be put in place, some glue needs to sit for a few minutes. Many shoe shops, sports supply outlets, and department stores sell Shoe Goo, a common and effective shoe sole adhesive that requires no heat to be activated.

Step 5: Press the new sole tightly against the shoe.

Before putting the sole on, be sure to read the instructions and wait for the glue to cure.Make sure the edges line up properly by starting at the front and laying the sole gradually on the shoe.Put pressure on it to stick on the bottom of the shoe.

Step 6: Attach the sole to the shoe with rubber bands, duct tape or weights.

The sole needs to be pressed tightly against the shoe.Wrap the sole in place with rubber bands or duct tape and place it on the ground to press the shoe into it.It's a good idea to put the shoe with paper first so that it doesn't fall apart.

Step 7: If you want to use the shoe again, wait 24 hours.

The majority of shoe sole glue takes a full day to set.If your shoe is not in danger of being moved or touched, put it in a cool place.

Step 8: Water and alcohol are needed to clean the shoe and sole.

Use a rag to rub the area around the sole with warm water and alcohol.Clean inside where the sole has become loose if you can do it without pulling it off further.

Step 9: There is a shoe sole that needs to be applied between the shoe and the sole.

Use a toothpick or cotton swab to apply a layer of glue to the sole of the shoe.It is better to put in too much and have it overflow than to not have enough. Before the sole is put in, some adhesives need to cure for a few minutes.Check the instructions for your product.

Step 10: The bottom of the shoe should be pressed against the sole.

Press the sole and shoe together tightly, be careful not to get any glue on your hands.Don't worry if the glue spills out, it can be sanded off later.

Step 11: Use rubber bands, duct tape, or weights to hold the sole in place.

The sole should be pressed against the shoe all the time.Set weights on top of the shoe in the area where the glue is drying, or use rubber bands or duct tape to secure it.

Step 12: Allow the shoe to sit for 24 hours.

Place the shoe out of the way so that it can stay dry while it sets.Wait at least a full day to wear the shoe.

Step 13: Sand off overflow glue.

If any of the shoe sole glue spilled out when you pressed the sole down, you should sand it off. Before sanding it, make sure the glue has dried out completely.

Step 14: Water and alcohol can be used to clean the hole.

To clean a hole, use a rag to rub warm water and alcohol around it.It should be dry for a few minutes.

Step 15: The edges of the hole need to be roughened.

The glue will adhere to the rubber. The edges of the hole should be scrubbed with a toothbrush.

Step 16: Duct tape should be put over the inside of the shoe.

Put a piece of duct tape in the shoe where the hole is.If the hole doesn't go all the way through the inside of the shoe, you can use duct tape to cover it.

Step 17: Put shoe sole glue in the hole.

If you don't want to touch the glue with your bare hands, gently squeeze it into the hole.Don't worry if there is an overflow, fill the entire hole.

Step 18: The ice cube can be used to smooth the surface of the glue.

You can smooth the surface of the glue with the ice cube. You can use a tongue depressor.

Step 19: Allow the shoe to dry for 24 hours.

The sole of the shoe should be facing upwards. It will be cool and dry if you leave it somewhere out of the way.Leave it for a full day.

Step 20: Sand down any dried glue that came out of the hole.

Check to see if the glue is sticking out from the hole.If there is, use 120-grit sandpaper to smooth the bottom of the sole.
