It has been almost two decades since the launch of the PS2 slim.It's hard to find reasonably priced used consoles because of this.With age comes inevitable problems, and one problem that's most common is that both games and DVDs only read sometimes or can't be read at all.You will learn how to replace the laser assembly on the PS2 slim.
Step 1: The console has cables, controllers, and memory cards.
Step 2: Remove the 6 screw covers when you flip the PS2 over.
A flat head screwdriver can be used to remove the warranty sticker from the screw covers.
Step 3: To remove all the screws, use aPhillips #1 screwdriver.
It is important to keep your screws and screw covers organized.
Step 4: The cover should be removed.
Lift the cover off of the PS2 when it is facing upright on your work surface.It may be easier to pull the bottom of the ps2 toward you if the power port is towards you.Lift the top and push it to the right, in the direction of the power button.
Step 5: Remove the guide tab.
To remove the worm-gear guide-tab from the laser assembly, use aPhillips #00 screwdriver.
Step 6: The guide rod is held down by two white brackets.
Step 7: Lift the rail and remove the guide rod from the laser assembly.
Step 8: Carefully lift the plastic piece holding the ribbon connector after flipping the laser assembly.
The ribbon cable may be damaged if done wrong.The disc drive could be ruined if you pull up the clip at the ends.
Step 9: The ribbon can be freed.
Pull the ribbon with two fingers, using a light grip.The laser can be replaced now that it's free.
Step 10: Lift up the plastic holder and you'll be able to see the ribbon on the laser assembly.
Step 11: Carefully pressing in the gold ends on both sides will ensure that the ribbon is secured.
You can flip the plastic holder down once secured.
Step 12: Attach the laser assembly to the guide rod.
There is a notch on the left side of the assembly which needs to be mounted onto the rail.
Step 13: The guide rod brackets and worm-gear guide-tab should be replaced.
Everything will fit into place if the laser assembly is properly aligned.
Step 14: Re-attach the top cover after everything is screwed in.
When everything is clipped in place you will hear a click.
Step 15: Attach the screws and then replace the screw covers.
