How to replace flour with oats is one of the questions we asked.

What a great idea! We're the same way of thinking.I have a sourdough starter in my fridge that is about 10 years old.I made a couple loaves of bread yesterday because I use WW flour to feed that.I got it ready Saturday.I use a recipe from King Arthur.A batches makes two loaves and we have declared it the best recipe.I need your prayers for my parents.Dad was working outside. He fell while trying to get his grill out of the barn. She didn't hear him when he called for her.He crawled over to his riding lawn mower and flopped over the mowing deck and called for help. They tried to take him to the hospital but couldn't.An ambulance was called to take him to the hospital after they got mom from home.We were sent home because they wouldn't let us in.They told us that he broke his hip and would need surgery. We waited and got nothing on Sunday. One of my brothers called the hospital and found out that they did surgery at 8 am and he was out of the room and never called mom to tell her anything.I'm pretty sure I am.He could leave in a day or two.Wonder how that will happen if they don't call.I will need to go to help when dad goes home because Mom is staying with us.Alice.

Oh, Alice.I am sorry for you and your family.I will be praying for you and your parents. This must have been so bad that it still is.Is it possible to stay in their home for several weeks?I will be praying.Your dad is poor.He was able to get himself to the neighbor.I am so sorry that this has happened to you and your family.Take care of yourself and know that you have friends who are praying for you.

Oh Alice.Of everything.I'm so sorry.Hospitals are crazy right now.The no-visitor rule is terrible for patients and family. In terms of going home in a day or two, the hospital will have to assess him to make sure he is well enough to go home.Doctors make all sorts of predictions, but they don't base them on reality.People need to be able to get on and off the toilet.I don't know what's happening with home care therapy. It's a mess for you.I will definitely be praying.Lili, you brought up flour consumption today. While I was at the store this morning, I noticed that there was no yeast on the shelves, except for pizza dough yeast.Everyone has become a bread baker. That's right.I wanted to be well-supplied for the next month or so, so I stock up on a couple more bags of flour, one white, and one whole wheat.I love using oat flour. Some of the recipes call for oatmeal in the bread.I think it makes the bread more moist and gives it a nice texture.

Kris, ha ha.We have become a nation of bread-bakers and preppers.I was looking for dried potatoes online and all of the usual bulk or prepper sites were completely sold out.I'm glad you picked up some flour while you were out because I hope that all of the people who are trying to bake bread for the first time find success.Have a great day, Kris.

I'm so sorry to hear about it.I'll keep your father and your family in my prayers, and also pray that the hospital keeps in contact since you're not allowed to stay there and find things for yourself.Lili likes an all WW loaf, but half and half is cheaper. That's a silver lining.Like Kris.I've used some nice recipes with oats in them, so you could either use them whole or turn them into flour, as your family likes the taste.A lot of us are going through the same thought process. You have what you have in the house. If you can figure out how to make them useful in more, the things you have a lot of are potentially the ones to spread around the most.It makes sense to use oats in a variety of dishes to make them more enjoyable.I have a couple of cups of oats leftover from the breakfast I made, and I'm craving a fruit crisp.I think I'll save them for now. When I really need a treat, I might want that more.I could mix canned and dried fruit together to make it work if I don't have fresh fruit at that time.I'm trying to figure out how to use up my masa.Take care, everyone!Sara.

I know what you mean!I think we will appreciate a fruit crisp in a few weeks, so I'm trying to decide what to keep.I went grocery shopping today and bought items I don't usually buy, so I hid them from my family. My pastor posted his no-knead recipe on our church's Facebook page and it was in short supply. The recipe I use all the time uses a small amount of yeast, so that may be my main go-to in the days ahead.

I am very sorry for you and your family.I am amazed that your Dad was able to get help. He's a fighter and survivor, and this strength will be important to help him do well. We're rationing it these days and I will send you my compassion and positive thoughts.I told my husband that we need to lower our standards. He always wants to know what I want for breakfast and lunch.Normal choices are missing ingredients for this and that.I told him to make sure we have beans and rice, some veggies, and the rest is extra. It will be a challenge to avoid shopping.Have a great day.

Prayers are being offered for your dad and your family. It's hard to imagine doing something like that without being able to be there. It is a difficult situation. He has moved onto recovery after the surgery.I'm surprised you found flour. You must have been in the right place. We were getting low so I was going to pick up some.Lili, I'm with your family and there's nothing like homemade bread. That was a silly idea because flour seems to be almost as popular as toilet paper. We don't eat as much bread as we used to, but it is still a comforting meal.I told Kris there was no flour on the shelves, so we have some in the freezer.I want to save the oats that we have to eat as a breakfast.

When I posted earlier, I didn't think about it, but I know something delicious I've used oat flour for.DS and I decided to try and duplicate a bag of Kodiak Cakes pancake mix because we liked it so much.If you make a regular amount of pancake batter, but use half whole wheat and half oat flour, with honey instead of sugar, it makes a very tasty pancake.Sara, that's right.

You can sub in oat flour in a no-knead recipe.I hope that helps. It's a great bread recipe. All things considered, our grocery store was well-stocked yesterday.I bought the more expensive brand of flour because it was the only thing available. The produce was well-stocked.

Do you use the masa to make corn muffins or something like that?I kept a bag of masa on my shelf for a long time.I discovered how difficult it is to make corn tortillas after buying it.I would mix masa with corn meal to make some good corn muffins.

Do you have a link to your no-knead recipe? It might be a good recipe if it uses less yeast.

We're right there with you on how challenging this is.I keep thinking, "I should just go down the highway and get some XXX."I think it's a modern world problem that we need to have all of the right ingredients for anything we cook. Our ancestors would have made something simple with whatever they had, and everyone else would do the same. This is just a temporary thing. We will be able to buy what we want again when it passes.

I hear about something else in short supply at the stores. If they keep telling us that there are no problems with the food supply, then at some point, everyone's pantry will be stuffed and people will stop buying food. Some people bought large supplies so they could profit off of others in this trying time, and that makes me angry.Saving oats for cereals is a better use of oats than turning them into flour.I wonder if oats are in short supply in the stores.
