How to Replace Rear Brake Pad Sensor on BMW E90 E93 is a video.
Your BMW brake pad sensor is what controls the brake light on your dashboard or iDrive system and lets you know how long you have left in your brake pads.Once the brake pads wear down, the tip of the sensor breaks, which causes the dashboard light to come on.The brake pad sensor fault codes can be found if you use an obd scanner.
Every time you replace your brake pads, you should replace the brake pad sensor. You don't have to replace the sensor every time, but not doing so can result in you getting an inaccurate reading on the amount of life left on your pads. The only way to remove the light from the dash is to replace the sensor or not at all.
The first step is Step 1.Remove the wheel and the liner from the car.A bunch of plastic nuts and screws are needed to remove the liner. There is a before and after picture.
Step 2.There is a black box on the left side of the wheel well. The white and black cylinder shaped wires can be seen in the above picture. There is a cover over the two sensors, but it has been removed. The old sensor is compared to the new sensor.
Step 3.The old sensor should be easy to pull out.The new brake pad sensor needs to be connected to the wire.If you want to start the opposite way, you can remove the sensor from the brake pad first. We can change the sensor piece that hooks onto the brake pad because the new sensor should snap right back into place.
The old wire is connected to a few things. To secure the new sensor wire, snap it into the same spots as the old one.
Step 4.The sensor is attached to the brake pad.You can see the sensor on the brake caliper.Attach the new sensor to the old one with a flat-head screwdriver. You may have to play with it a bit to get it to connect.Make sure the rest of the wire is set and not dangling once you get it reconnected.
Step 5.Remove the wheel well liner, 10mm and 8mm bolts, and put the car back on the ground. The new sensor is ready to go.You can still see the light on your dash.
Step 6.The brake pad service light needs to be reset. You have two options. You will need to reset the instrument cluster method if it doesn't work.
