There are ways to make training a rabbit easier. It's easier to restrain a rabbit if you know how to approach him, pick him up, and keep him calm.A surface, towel, or a special device can be used to restrain a rabbit.
Step 1: In a calm manner, approach the rabbit.
When picking up a rabbit, it is important to go slowly.Try not to do anything that scares the rabbit.Do not yell, jump up and down, or thrust your hand into the rabbit's cage.Try to speak in a low voice, approach the cage at a slow and steady pace, and then slowly reach into the rabbit's cage.
Step 2: There is a rabbit with a scruff.
The scruff of the rabbit's neck is the best place to reach into the cage.Grabbing the rabbit's scruff will restrain it, prevent it from biting or scratching you, and allow you to pull it out of the cage.Don't hold the rabbit by the scruff of his neck alone. To support the rabbit's bottom with your other hand, make sure you are ready.
Step 3: Use your other hand to support the rabbit's bottom.
Rabbits kick fast and hard if their back legs are well supported. When you lift your rabbit out of his cage, make sure to put a hand under his bottom. The rabbit should have one hand on the scruff and the other on its bottom.
Step 4: The rabbit has eyes.
Being lifted off of the ground is a frightening experience for rabbits.A rabbit is being lifted off of the ground. One way to calm a rabbit down is to put a towel over his eyes. The rabbit won't be able to see that he is not on the ground.
Step 5: The rabbit should be held like a ball.
You can hold the rabbit in your arms. The best way to hold a rabbit is similar to holding a football. The rabbit's body should be cradled by one of your arms and you should have another hand on top of it.You can't see the rabbit's face if he is tucked under your elbow.Don't hold a rabbit by its ears, scruff, or around its chest. These holding methods can hurt a rabbit.Rabbits have powerful legs and can hurt themselves if their legs are not supported.
Step 6: The rabbit can be placed on a table.
If you want your rabbit to feel more secure, place it on a table or the floor.Keep one hand on the rabbit's neck scruff and the other on his backside to keep him in place. If the rabbit is struggling, try applying more pressure to make him feel better.
Step 7: The rabbit should be kept still by using a towel.
Wrap a rabbit in a towel to stop him from jumping around.Place a towel over the rabbit's back so that the towel comes up to his neck.Wrap the rabbit in the towel with one edge under it and then turn it onto his side to wrap it around him.Wrap the towel around the rabbit so he can't escape.A canvas bag is a good choice. You can use a canvas bag or box to restrain a rabbit. You can use one of these devices if you put the rabbit in the bag or box and close the lid.
Step 8: If the rabbit struggles, tighten your grip.
A rabbit won't struggle if it's being held securely. If your rabbit is struggling, you may want to tighten your grip or place the rabbit on a surface until you can get a better grip.Pull the rabbit closer to your body.If you sit in a chair or on the ground, you may be able to hold the rabbit in between your thighs, since rabbits are comforted by being pressed on from all sides.
