How To Reuse Old Speakers

Do you have any old speakers lying around? They should be used instead of being left there collecting dust. You can turn them into wireless speakers if they are still functioning. If you have some old big box speakers with the right tools and supplies, you can turn them into furniture for your home.

Step 1: If you want to connect to your speakers, you have to choose a adapter.

There is a device that you can use to connect your old speakers to play music.Pick one up from your local electronics store or order one online so you can hook it up to your speakers. The Vamp, Raspberry Pi, and Chromecast Audio are some of the popular ones. The Vamp Stereo can power up to 2 speakers at the same time.

Step 2: The audio jack of your speakers has a plug in.

The audio jack is used to connect to speakers.Look for a two-way audio jack on the back or bottom of your speaker.

Step 3: Attach the device to the speakers with a foam pad.

If you want to keep your speaker attached, you'll need a foam pad to stick to it.The Vamp comes with two magnets, one at the bottom of the device and one inside the speaker, so you can hold it in place. If your device doesn't come with a foam pad or a magnet, you can use tape or another glue to attach it to your speaker. If you don't want to attach the device to the speaker, you can.

Step 4: Attach the device to your device.

When you turn on your phone or tablet, make sure that it is connected to the internet. You can send audio through the speakers if you pair them together. You will need to download an app from your app store to connect to some devices.

Step 5: Music or audio can be played through the speakers.

You are good to go once you are connected. If you play a song, audio file, or video on your device, it will play through your speakers. You can change the volume on your phone. To power the speakers, you will need to keep your device charged.

Step 6: Old box speakers can be used for this project.

Old box speakers can be used to build a table or bookshelf. You can find cheap speakers in garage sales and thrift stores.Make sure the outer frame is strong.

Step 7: The speakers have inserts, cones, wires, and padding.

Remove the screws holding the speaker cones by cutting off the outer screen with a box cutter. The inserts and cones are in the front of the speaker. You're left with a hollow box if you take out foam padding and wiring from the speakers. The parts of the speaker will not be usable if you use them.If you want to make a table or bookshelf out of old speakers, check out the local thrift stores.

Step 8: Dust can be wiped away by sanding the sides.

To remove old varnish and create a rough surface for your wood stain, you need to sand all the sides of the speaker.Dust can be wiped away with a clean cloth. It is important to remove the dust so that it does not get into your wood stain.

Step 9: Let it dry after applying a layer of wood stain.

The natural color of your speakers should complement the wood stain color. To spread a thin layer over the box, use a paintbrush.Wait about an hour to allow the wood stain to fully dry.If the speaker box is dark in color, use a dark stain to match it.You can paint the rim of the speakers in a bright, fun color to really make it pop, but it is up to you.

Step 10: Remove the legs from the chair.

You can either find an old wooden chair that you don't use or buy a cheap one from a thrift store.Remove the screws that connect the legs to the chair. If it is easier, you could use a saw to cut off the legs. The speaker box needs 4 legs to be stable.

Step 11: The legs should be sprayed with gold or silver.

Just above the feet of the legs, tape the area off with painter's tape.Place the legs over the newspaper to keep the paint out of them.Shake the can of spray paint really well to mix the paint and spray a thin layer over the feet of the legs. When you are done, allow the paint to fully dry.The can of spray paint has directions for specific drying times. If you work in a well-ventilated area, you can avoid breathing in paint fumes.

Step 12: Place the 4 mounting plates in the corners of the speakers.

There is a slot in the center of the metal plates that you can use to screw your chair legs into.Hold a mounting plate against a corner on the bottom of the speaker and drill a screw into each slot to secure it in place. Each leg should have a mounting plate in the corners of the speaker. There are mounting plates at your local hardware store. You can place an order online.

Step 13: There are bolts for the tops of the legs.

Special screws are put into something to connect it to something else.If you want to hold the bolt, you have to drill a hole in the top of your chair legs.Push a bolt into the slot of the legs. You can use the bolts at your local hardware store.Make sure you use bolts that fit your plates.

Step 14: The bolts need to be connected to the plates.

If you want to screw it into place, you need to insert the bolt into the mounting plate. To finish your project, install all of the legs into the mounting plates.

Step 15: Make sure the speaker is balanced by flipping it over.

Pick up the speaker and place it on the legs.If the legs are wobbly, tighten the bolts. You can use your new table or bookshelf.
