Rolling your own cigarettes will give you more control over the size of the cigarette. You can roll cigarettes by hand or use a machine.Rolling papers, loose-leaf tobacco, and time to practice are all you need.
Step 1: Pick your paper.
Thin rice or wheat-straw paper can be used.Wide and square is a good starting shape for paper.Purchase papers online, in convenience stores, and at marijuana and tobacco shops. There are papers that burn evenly. Some chemicals burn with a bad flavor, so look for papers that don't have any chemical Additives.Consider brands that are natural and free of pesticides.Rolling paper protectors are a must if you plan to carry your papers with you.Rolling papers can be bent and torn if they are put in a metal case. You can make a case from an empty tin.Carry some spare paper.Gummed strips that have been torn from a spare paper are great for repairs.
Step 2: You can buy tobacco that is loose leaf.
You can find a bag of basic rolling tobacco in many liquor stores and grocery stores, or you can visit a local tobacconist for a wide range of options.Look for tobacco that doesn't have a lot of chemicals. If you like tobacco, you can buy it.Consider brands that are affordable, like American Spirit.Consider rolling clove cigarettes. You can mix shredded cloves with tobacco.Clove cigarettes have a ratio of tobacco to clove.People roll their cigarettes with tobacco.Keep in mind that pipe tobacco is usually longer and more wet than cigarette-rolling tobacco. It may not burn as well in a cigarette if it is packed too densely. If you want to use pipe tobacco, make sure you dry it out before rolling it.
Step 3: The tobacco needs to be shaped.
Spread the tobacco evenly on the rolling surface, then use a card or your fingers to make a pile into a cigarette.A mirror, a book, or a clean table are good choices. If you don't want to put tobacco on a surface, cover it with a piece of white paper. The tobacco doesn't blend in if the color of the surface contrasts with the tobacco.Rolling tobacco on a brown carpet could quickly turn into a nightmare. The tobacco should not be too small. It still forms one connected unit if you tear it apart lightly.
Step 4: Rest one end of your paper between your hands.
The paper should be held in the crease with your index finger. The paper should be adjusted into a creased, open chute by the other hand. You don't want to spill tobacco. As you add tobacco, the index finger in the crease will keep it from spilling out the end.The tip of the cigarette will be this end.
Step 5: Use tobacco to fill the crease.
The tobacco should be sprinkled along the crease in the paper with your free hand. You should start working from one end to the other. The pile should be moved from the rolling surface to the paper. It's possible to roll your cigarette thinner or thicker. How well the cigarette pulls and whether you can seal it are the main considerations. The thicker the cigarette, the harder it will be to close. The tobacco should be out of the paper to make it consistent. It helps the cigarette burn more smoothly if it is level.Pick apart any clumps with your fingers if it is damp.It will keep the ends from being too narrow if you leave some hanging over them.
Step 6: Leave a space for the filter.
If you plan to use a filter, either insert it now or leave a tobacco-less space to slip it in later. The space should be the same as the filter. You can buy a bag of fresh cigarette filters. You can find them at smoke shops. You would find the same filters on a store-bought cigarette. The cigarette's filter needs to be removed. If you don't want to smoke the store-bought cigarettes, you can tear the paper and remove the filter.Put the filter in your cigarette. You can make your own rough filters.First, tear a thin strip of sturdy paper from an index card or business card.Roll the rest of the unfolded filter around the folded one to make a pleat. It should look like a W.You may need to adjust the folded filter a number of times. This homemade filter won't be able to block the largest particulate matter from entering your lungs.
Step 7: Hold the ends of the paper together.
The cigarette is ready to roll if it is full of tobacco.Keep holding the paper in the same hand, but grasp the other end between your thumb and middle finger.Lift your stabilizing finger from the paper. The paper should be placed between the fingers of both hands. The tobacco should be spread evenly, except at the very tip.
Step 8: Wrap your middle fingers around the back of the paper.
Your fingers should form a line from one end of the cigarette to the other. The cigarette should be held slightly below the underside of your middle fingers. The shape of the cigarette should be suggested by the fingers.
Step 9: To roll the cigarette, begin.
Roll the cigarette between your fingers. To shape the cigarette, try to roll the paper tightly.Apply pressure to the ends of the cigarette while you do this.Keep your fingers parallel.
Step 10: To push the paper against the tobacco, use your thumbs.
Pull your thumbs downward to align the edge of the paper with the top of tobacco after you have molded the tobacco into the right shape.
Step 11: The cigarette should be rolled.
The edge of the paper needs to be tucked into the tobacco crease.Roll your middle fingers upward to apply more pressure.Wrap the paper all the way around the tobacco, in the shape of a cigarette, without wrinkling the bottom of it.As you roll the paper should be tucked behind the tobacco. This may take a while.Push the front of the paper with the thumbs until it catches.
Step 12: The cigarette must be licked and sealed.
The cigarette should be rolled until the end of the paper is gone.Think of it as sealing an envelope by licking the edge of the paper.Roll the rest of the paper until the edge is gone.Run your fingers along the length of the cigarette and gently but firmly press the glue until it sticks.Don't bend, tear or crinkle the paper.
Step 13: Take the tobacco out of the ends.
This will make it easier to smoke. If loose strands of tobacco are hanging from the ends of your cigarette, they can fall onto the floor.
Step 14: To completely seal the cigarette, twist the tips.
Some smokers like to lightly twist their cigarettes. The tobacco will fall out of a poorly-packed cigarette if the tip is twisted.Tobacco can stick to your lips if you twist the tip from which you smoke.A filter can do the trick. If you like to twist the tips, leave a bit of space at the end of the cigarette.
Step 15: If you haven't already, insert the filter.
If you left room for a filter, put it in the end and tuck the paper around it.If you didn't leave enough room for the filter, you can use a small, sharp tool to pull out tobacco.
Step 16: To make sure the cigarette is tight, pack it.
Step 17: You should smoke a cigarette.
You can roll a new cigarette whenever you want, or you can pre-roll a bunch of cigarettes so that you don't have to do the work at the moment. If you have to spend a lot of time rolling each cigarette, hand-rolling is a good way to limit cigarette consumption.
Step 18: Consider using a cigarette roller.
It's much easier to roll joints and cigarettes if you don't have the dexterity to do it by hand. You can buy a cigarette roller at a smoke shop.Follow the steps to use the roller.
Step 19: Pack the machine.
The machine must be opened first to see the shape of a cigarette.Pack the tobacco tightly as you please.Close the cylinders when the space is full. One cylinder should be in and out.The machine should be held so that the cylinder is closest to you.If you want a filter, add it now.The filter has to be put into one end of the compartment. The more tightly you pack the cigarette, the harder it will be to smoke. This is the case with machine rolling.
Step 20: The paper should be put into the machine.
There is a small gap between the cylinders. The cylinder should be facing the glue.Make sure that the top edge of the paper is parallel to the rolling machine.
Step 21: Roll the cylinders toward yourself.
The paper will be pulled into the machine by this motion.Don't turn the machine or lick the glue before the top of the paper rolls. The cigarette will stick together.
Step 22: The cigarette needs to be finished.
If you can't see the paper, keep rolling the cylinders in the same direction.Roll the machine a few more times to separate the cylinders.Your cigarette should be ready to smoke.
