The instructions show the replacement of the heater core. The lineup should be the same. It's important to have a digital camera to document the process. This article does not document all of the details, so it's important to have a manual for reference.
Step 1: The center and rear dash sections should be removed.
There is no need for the entire dash to come out.Remove the center consoles, driver side lower panel, and glovebox. The airbox needs to be separated from the ducts.
Step 2: If you have a VAG-Com tool, now is a good time to check the blower motor and temp/position flaps.
Go to the control section of the VAG-Com software and do a full test. You should be able to hear the various flaps working.
Step 3: There may be debris on the passenger side carpet when the glove box comes out.
Step 4: The recirculation flap is located above the glovebox.
It is a good time to clean it out.If you want to clean the flap, open it by hand.I had a lot of leaves and Kleenex.
Step 5: The left/right footwell vent as well as the rubber center section should be removed.
Step 6: There is a driver side footwell duct.
These are snapped out.
Step 7: The heater box can no longer be seen from the interior ducting.
I slowly pried the box out with a few broom sticks.Remove all wiring, vac lines, and the large hose clamps before putting the rubber sleeve on.
Step 8: The box has the heater core in it.
The screws and clips have to be removed.Don't force anything because there are many hidden screws.
Step 9: This is the inlet.
Before removing the core, you need to remove all the sealant. The new core should be re- sealed with 100% Silicone.
Step 10: The box was disassembled.
Before reassembly, clean it out. It's a good time to replace the blower motor. You don't want to do this again because these fail often.
Step 11: The old heater core is out.
Put it back together. There is a note warnings section.
