It can seem intimidating to say hello to your crush. There are a lot of things you can say to keep the conversation going. If you want to show confidence, go right up to your crush.Ask your crush a question about themselves, give them a compliment, or talk about something you both have in common after you say hi.
Step 1: To start a conversation, add something on to your text.
Sending a text that says "hey" doesn't tell your crush anything specific about why you're talking to them and is hard to respond to.Adding a simple question after your hello is a better conversation starter."Hey!" you could say.Did you finish your English homework today?I forgot!Or "Hey Tyler, your science project looked great!"
Step 2: Keep talking to your crush when you ask about their day.
Say your hello and then ask them questions such as, "How did your English quiz go?" or "What was the concert practice like?" These questions will help you get to know your crush as you text them.Asking questions is a way to get to know your crush better. If your crush has been sick, or if you went on a class trip, you might ask, "Are you feeling better?"
Step 3: Make them smile by texting them a funny meme.
You can find a meme with a picture of an animal or TV character.Pick a meme that says hello, shows how you are feeling, or talks about something that happened during the day. It's a cute way to say hello to your crush without having to put in a lot of effort.Pick out a meme of Joey from "Friends" with the caption, "how you doin?" or a cute sea animal saying hi.A funny meme is a great way to show your creativity.
Step 4: If you know their handle, reach out to your crush on social media.
Follow your crush's profile on social media.Send them a message or tag them in a post so they can start a conversation. If you tag them in the comment section of a funny video, they will get to watch it and you will say, "This totally reminded me of you!"Or something similar. It's okay to text and talk to your crush on social media.
Step 5: Don't talk to them at night or early in the morning.
It is okay to text your crush outside of school hours, but make sure you think about what time it is before you talk to them.Sending a text too early or late will wake your crush up.Pick a time when they will be free and able to talk, such as in the afternoon after school or the early evening.
Step 6: Give yourself a pep talk so you can talk to your crush.
It's possible that going up to your crush to say hello is making you jittery. If you want to find the courage to go up to them, remind yourself that your crush is a person just like you, and that you shouldn't be different from anyone else.If you want to show confidence, take a deep breath, and put on a smile. If you notice you aren't talking to your crush, count to three.Go up to them when you get to three.
Step 7: When you pass them in the hallways, give a quick hello.
If you see your crush and don't have time for a real conversation, say hello and then their name so they know you're talking to them.Try to make eye contact when you say hello and show that you are friendly. If you see your crush as you walk to your seat, say, "Hey, Adam!" with a smile and keep walking.Speak loudly and clearly in order for your crush to hear you.It helps spark a connection between the two of you if you make eye contact.
Step 8: Don't interrupt them when they're free to talk.
If you see a moment when they're waiting outside of class or chatting with 1 or 2 people, go up to them!Being proactive about timing will make you feel more confident and in control. If they're talking on the phone, don't go to them.
Step 9: Wait until they are alone to talk to them.
You can talk to them when they are with their friends.Wait for them to be alone, like when they are at their locker or waiting for a class to start. It makes the conversation flow more naturally and puts less pressure on you.It is okay to talk to them when they are around others, if you just want to say hello."Hey Jack, I wanted to ask you how your soccer game went last weekend!"Did you guys win?
Step 10: Ask for their phone number or social media handle.
If you want to continue talking to them, you should ask for their phone number if you don't already have it.Adding them to social media could also be used to talk to them. You might ask, "What's your phone number?" after talking about books.I will let you know the names of a few other books.
Step 11: Give your crush a compliment and let them know you like them.
Say hello and then compliment your crush by saying something like, "You did a great job in the basketball game last night!" or "Your Spanish presentation was great!"You might say, "That shirt looks great on you!" or "You have a great singing voice!""I like the stickers on your laptop!"
Step 12: It's easy to start a conversation with something you have in common.
This could be a class you take or a sport you are interested in.This is a great way to start a conversation if you already know something similar to your crush.Ask about a friend or show you both watch. Are you going to Sam's birthday party this weekend, or are you studying for the history test?
Step 13: Discuss an event coming up.
Maybe there will be a pep rally or play.Bring up an activity that you might both be interested in.You might make plans to see each other at the event if you continue talking this way.Did you hear about this weekend's event? It sounds like a lot of fun, you should come!
Step 14: To get to know them better, ask them questions about their family and hobbies.
Start asking open-ended questions after you say hello. You might ask about their siblings, what they do on the weekends, or who their favorite musicians are.Asking questions will show you are interested in their life while also getting to know them more.If you want to keep the conversation going, ask something like, "What did you do over the weekend?" or "I'm out of Netflix shows, what's you currently watching?"
Step 15: If there is an awkward silence, comment on things around you.
Say something nice if you find yourself in an awkward silence after saying hello, such as your crush's backpack, clothing or an activity happening around you.It will help you start a conversation quickly. You could say, "The buttons on your backpack are cool, where did you get them?"It looks like they're playing frisbee outside.Have you ever played a game?
Step 16: If they text you one word replies, don't try to keep talking.
If you text your crush and they respond with just one word like "cool" or "K", this means that they're busy and just don't have time to talk right now, or they are not interested in talking.Instead of asking them questions to keep the conversation going, send a simple reply or wait a bit to see if they want to talk.If they respond with "Good" and don't say anything else, you can send them a smiley face. It's great if they respond to the emoji.Try texting them the next day if they don't.
