There are three ways to set the default program for Windows 8.It is possible to make a specific program a default program.The default program can be changed for a specific file type.You can change the associated program in the file context menu.
Step 1: Go to the Start screen.
The Start screen can be opened by pressing the Windows key on your keyboard.If you use a touch screen, you can open the Charms menu by touching Start from the right edge of the screen.
Step 2: You can find the Default Programs utility.
In the search field, type the default program and then press Enter.
Step 3: Touch the Default Programs to open it.
Step 4: You can find a program you want to use.
In the Programs sidebar, you can find a program you'd like to set as a default by clicking or touching it.
Step 5: Click or touch to set the program as default.

Step 6: Go to the start screen.

Step 7: The Set Associations utility can be found.
In the Search field, type the file associations you want to enter.
Step 8: Touch the search results to make a file type open in a specific program.
Step 9: There is a file type.
You can find the file extension in the Set Associations window.Click to select it.In the Current Default column, you can see what the default program is for that file type.
Step 10: Click the program you want to change.
Step 11: You can choose a new program.
Click More options if you don't see the program you want to use.Click OK when you're done.
Step 12: Go to the Start screen.
The Start screen can be opened by pressing the Windows key on your keyboard.If you're using a touch screen, you can open the Charms menu by touching Start from the right edge of the screen.
Step 13: You can open the file explorer.
You can type file explorer in the search field on the start screen.Touch File Explorer to open it.
Step 14: If you want to change the default program, you can find a file or file type in File Explorer.
Step 15: Click the file icon if you want toProperties.
If you're using a touch screen, hold the file icon until the context menu opens.
Step 16: Click or touch to open, then choose the default program.
Step 17: You can choose a new default program.
Click More options if you don't see the program you want to use.Click OK if you're done.If you want to change the default for this specific file, but not other files of this type, you have to use this app.
Step 18: Go to the Start screen.

Step 19: The Default Programs utility can be found.
In the search field, type the default program and then press Enter.
Step 20: Touch the Default Programs to open it.
Step 21: You can find a program you want to use.
In the Programs sidebar, you can find a program that you would like to set as a default.
Step 22: Click or touch to choose the defaults for the program.
Step 23: There are file types for the program.
You can find the file types you'd like to open in the Set Program Associations window.Touch or click to save.
