There are simple ways to shrink jeans at home without a dryer. You can transform your old jeans into hip-huggers by bathing in them, using a hot iron on them or letting them boil on the stove.
Step 1: Put on your jeans after you take a bath.
You don't want to burn yourself, but fill the bath with the hottest water you can handle. If the bath is full, you can use your finger to see if it is safe to climb in.The bath should be ready if you can hold your finger in for 5 seconds without burning it.
Step 2: Take a bath in your jeans.
The heat will shrink your jeans to your exact figure while you wait, even though it might feel odd to be bathing in a pair of jeans.Climb out of the bath onto a bath mat or towel to avoid making a mess. Before leaving the bathroom, stand there and dry off.
Step 3: Walk around in your wet jeans.
Your body heat is a great drying agent, and the jeans should dry in around 20 minutes or less, faster than if they were hanging to dry.You don't want to be freezing cold walking around in wet jeans, so try to do this in warm weather or with the heat on in your house. You can speed up the drying by listening to music and dancing; your jeans will dry even faster if you do that.
Step 4: You can wash your jeans in hot water.
If you want to wash jeans, you can either put them in the washer or hand wash them.If you use a washing machine, you can turn the jeans inside out to protect them from wear.
Step 5: When the jeans are damp, hang them up to dry.
After hanging the jeans up, check them out.You want the jeans to be dry but still damp. The jeans should be dry enough that you can put them on.Check back in 30 minutes if they aren't dry enough.
Step 6: Turn the jeans inside out and iron them.
Put the iron on the highest setting and move it up and down until the pant legs feel dry.Next, move to the waist and hip area.Once the jeans are fully dry, turn them right-side out and repeat the ironing process. You can try the jeans on and see how they feel.
Step 7: There are areas of jeans that need to be shrunk.
You can spray the spots with a spray bottle filled with hot water and then use the iron to target them.If you want to shrink the waist area or lower legs, this can be helpful.
Step 8: The pot of water needs to be boiled.
When you are ready to put the jeans in, fill the pot halfway.Make sure the pot is large enough to hold a pair of jeans.Place the stove on high heat, cover the pot, and wait for the water to boil.
Step 9: The jeans should be submerged in the boiling water for at least 30 minutes.
To push the jeans into the water, use a pair of tongs or a kitchen utensil.Bring the water to a boil and cover the pot.If you're unsure, leave your jeans in the washing machine for a shorter amount of time, as boiling them will shrink them faster than putting them in.
Step 10: The jeans should be dry in the sun.
Place your jeans in the sun to experience the heat and drying capacities of a high-heat dryer.Put them on a clothesline or lay them out in the sun.If the jeans fit, try them on.
