Smoking a bong for the first time can be confusing, but it gets easier once you know what you are doing.Before you can smoke out of a bong, you need to pack the bowl and fill it with water.The smoke chamber needs to be filled with smoke from the bowl.Then you can exhale.If you are just beginning to smoke out of a bong, take it slowly.
Step 1: The bong should be filled with water.
It will work with bottled or tap water.Depending on the size of the bong you are using, the amount of water you should pour into it will vary.The bong needs to be filled so the water comes no more than 1 inch above the tip of the downstem.You could get splashed while smoking if you have more water than that.The water should be poured directly into the top of the bong.
Step 2: Take your cannabis and grind it.
You can use a grinder or a pair of scissors.It needs to be ground up finely.To pack at the bottom of the bong bowl, you should break off a couple of larger pieces.If you're using a grinder, put 2 or 3 buds of cannabis in between the grinder's teeth.To grind up the cannabis inside, close the lid and twist it back and forth.
Step 3: The bong bowl should be filled with cannabis.
The outside portion of the downstem has a bowl in it.If you want the finely ground cannabis to not get sucked through the bowl as you smoke, you should take the large pieces of cannabis you set aside.Drop the ground cannabis between your fingers into the bowl.Air won't be able to pass through the cannabis if it's packed too tightly.If the cannabis looks pressed down in the bowl, use something small and thin like a paper clip to stir it up and loosen it.Don't pack the bowl more than half full if you're smoking alone.You can always bring more with you.The cannabis should come up to the rim of the bowl if you're smoking with friends.If you pack it too high, some could fall out as you smoke.
Step 4: You can get into a comfortable position with the bong.
If you are new to smoking bongs, take a seat near a table or stand and set the bong down if you start coughing.If you don't want the room to fill with smoke, sit near an open window.The area you're sitting in should be free of dangerous objects.
Step 5: With your non-dominant hand, hold the bong.
Wrap your hand around the smoke chamber, or hold the bong from the bottom.Before you light it, make sure you have a good grip on it.
Step 6: Take a deep breath.
The muscles below your lungs are used to breathe.It's easier to inhale the smoke from the bong if you fill your body with oxygen.
Step 7: Put your mouth on the table.
The rim of the mouthpiece should be pressed against the area around your mouth.Make sure there are no gaps so the smoke doesn't escape.
Step 8: Use your free hand to light the lighter.
A regular pocket lighter can be used.Hold the lighter vertically and light it with your thumb.Wrap your fingers around the lighter so they don't get burned.
Step 9: The flame can be brought to the bowl if the lighter is tilted on its side.
You should only be burning the edge of the cannabis in the bowl if you position the flame.The cannabis in the bowl will last longer with this.The edge of the cannabis has a flame on it.
Step 10: As you light the bowl, inhale slowly.
The smoke should not be going into your lungs at this point.The smoke is being drawn up into the smoke chamber by you.As you exhale, you should see the chamber get cloudy as it fills with smoke.If you are new to smoking bongs, fill the smoke chamber halfway with smoke so you don't overwhelm yourself.
Step 11: When you are satisfied with the amount of smoke, you should stop lighting the bowl.
Hold the lighter in your hand or set it aside.The smoke in the smoke chamber will escape if you stop inhaling.
Step 12: If you want to smoke in the chamber, pull the bowl out of the stem.
To pull the bowl out of the stem, use the same hand you used to light it.When you breathe in the smoke, make sure it goes into your lungs.If you can't inhale the smoke in the chamber all at once, take your mouth off and cover it with the palm of your hand.When you are ready to smoke the rest of the smoke, remove your hand and put your mouth back on the mouthpiece.
Step 13: Don't let the smoke in your lungs get to you.
You won't get higher if you hold the smoke in for longer.You can get high if you hold the smoke in for a few seconds.
Step 14: Take out the smoke.
Smoke can be blown into the room or out the window.If you're smoking with other people, make sure you blow the smoke up so they don't see it.
Step 15: The bowl should be in the stem.
When you are ready to take another hit, relight the bowl.If you are smoking with friends, you should give the bong and lighter to the person next to you.Pour out the water if you're done with the bong.Place the bong in a place where it won't get damaged.
