How to solder metal together is a tool kit.

It is possible to complete your own project.Fix it and build it yourself. There are home project instructions.

It is another episode of Tool Tutorial Friday.Do you miss TTF?This handy gal has a lot of tools, but I only have a few.A few weeks ago, I added a soldering iron.Let's learn how to solder together.

One of the benefits of going to art school is taking a stained glass class.I didn't pick up a soldering iron again after the semester because I enjoyed the course. It was 20 years ago.Someone posted on the internet that they were selling a soldering iron.I jumped at the chance.I had these farmhouse lights on the brain, but I didn't have stained glass in mind.

You are qualified to solder if you have used a curling iron.Even if you have never used a curling iron, you can do this. The soldering iron gets hotter than the standard hair iron, so use caution.

Sand the edges of the metal where they will be joined. There are burrs and bumps on a smooth surface. There must be no gaps between the two pieces.

If you don't want to expose yourself to solder with painter's tape, cover it.

Everything is within easy reach if you set up your work area.Make sure the soldering iron is in the right place.Remove the solder so you don't have to work with it.You want to keep a distance between you and the end of the solder.

The soldering iron is likely to be ready by now. It's a good idea to wear safety glasses because hot solder can pop.I chose not to wear gloves.

Let your metal cool after it's been soldered.Remove any excess solder beads once it has cooled. And you are done!

It can be difficult to control the flow of liquid solder.Put on your patience cap and take your time.I know you can do this, but there is a short learning curve. You know how to solder.

P.s.Don't forget to enter to win a Dremel Multi-Max!I will pick a winner after midnight tonight.

This post is from 2012 and I hope you are still around.I am a jeweler and would like to learn how to solder iron wire.I solder with a torch but never use an iron.

Thank you for the information! When a friend of mine called to ask how to solder a wire to an electrical switch, I directed him to this article. He liked it.

I think that is one of the most significant information for me.I'm happy I read your article. The website taste is wonderful, the articles are in reality excellent, just right process, cheers.

I don't have to print 12 pages because I love your tutorials, but I wish there was a print option.I can't see at the same time as I'm creating because my craft area is not near my computer.

Joyia, thank you for your comment.Finding a plug that allows you to print quickly is on my to do list.Wishing a happy new year.

Brittany, you make it look easy.I soldered with torches and tiny bits of solder in jewelry classes I took in high school. It was very frustrating.I didn't know you could solder with an iron, I thought torches were the only option. How much did you pay for the iron? Thanks for showing us how to use a tool.

I bought it from a neighbor who was selling things.I don't know how many new ones are out there, but I might look on eBay or Craig's List.

Brittany, it is so interesting that you posted it.I have always wanted to solder.I remember my dad using a solder gun in the 60's to put together stereo components. There was no computer chips back then.
