It's a great way to heat up hot dog buns without putting them on the grill. When done right, you end up with warm, soft buns that are perfect for your hot dog.If you want to enjoy your buns before they cool off, always steam them as the last step in your meal prep.
Step 1: The water should be boiled over high heat.
The water forms steam. The steam warms your hot dog buns without causing them to get soggy. You can save yourself a few dishes by steaming hot dogs. The dogs and buns can be steamed in the same pot and basket.Be careful when working with boiling water.Don't touch the pot with your hands.
Step 2: The basket should be over the water.
If the basket doesn't fit in the pot, you'll end up with very soggy buns.If you don't have a steaming basket, try one of these faux-steamer methods: use a colander placed inside the pot; check that the water is low enough that it wont come through the holes and touch the buns.Place the bowl upside down in the pot.Make sure the plate is 2–3 inches above the water by placing it on top of the bowl.Put a pair of chopsticks over the pot and place buns on top of them. The bun should be thoroughly warmed with a pair of tongs.
Step 3: The buns should be placed in the steamer for about 2 minutes.
It doesn't take long for hot dog buns to be warm.Once the buns are done, you should be able to eat your hot dogs or sausages. You could put the buns in the steamer to get the insides warm. The last thing you should do is warm the buns. The buns will cool off before you can enjoy them if you steam them. You don't need to cover hot dogs or vegetables with a lid if you use the hot dog buns.As steam hits the lid, it turns into condensation and can cause your buns to be soggy.
Step 4: Attach your hot dog with a pair of tongs.
Remove the buns with tongs and place them on a clean plate. There is a chance that you could get burned by the steam or accidentally touch the pot, so don't try to grab to buns with your bare hands. Before they cool off, steaming buns are best enjoyed.
Step 5: The water should be in the microwave-safe bowl for 1 minute.
The hot dog buns are softened by the water in the microwave. If you prefer, you could use a mug instead of a bowl. The microwave-steaming methods that skip this step end up with great results.Try it with or without a mug of water. There is no need to wash that bowl after.Once you finish with your meal, dry it off and put it away. It's a good idea to be careful when removing items from the microwave. If you accidentally burn yourself, use a kitchen towel or oven mitt.
Step 6: 2 sheets of paper towels are placed on a microwave-safe plate.
condensation will form on the plate as the hot dog bun steams in the microwave. The paper towels will keep the bun from getting wet. They don't have a pleasing texture and fall apart.
Step 7: The bun should be covered with a paper towel.
If you want to keep the paper towel dry, lightly spray or splash it with a few drops of water. The damp paper towel helps keep the bun moist. If you want to cook more than one bun, make sure the buns aren't touching so they warm evenly.
Step 8: For 10 seconds, microwave the bun and hot water.
The atmosphere remains steamy if the bowl of warm water is left in the microwave. To reduce the risk of drying out the bun, use a low power setting. This method is very quick.buns can be prepared for your hot dogs in less than 2 minutes.
Step 9: If you want to cook it for an extra 10 seconds, flip the bun over.
Lift the damp paper towel and turn the bun over.Remove the paper towel and steam the bun for 10 more seconds. The bun should be warm once it's done.If the bun doesn't feel warm enough in the microwave, you may need to add 5 seconds to the cooking time.
