A sliding bed makes it difficult to get a good night's sleep. There are both premade accessories and do-it-yourself remedies that can be used to fix the problem. You will be sleeping better than ever in a few weeks.
Step 1: There is a mattress pad between your mattress and bed frame.
There are pads made of rubber that fit between the mattress and the bed frame to keep it from sliding.Stick a model between the mattress and frame combo to see if it resolves the problem. You can combine 2 smaller pads if you can't find a big one.You shouldn't notice a difference in feeling when you sleep on the new bed setup because the non-slip mattress pads are very thin.
Step 2: Buy rubber mats that go under the rug as a cheaper alternative.
Purchase a pad that is large enough to fit under your mattress. If it is longer than the mattress, cut it to fit.If you want to save a few bucks, it is worth shopping around for gripping pads that are multi-use for both mattresses and area rugs.
Step 3: Stick-on strips are a do-it-yourself remedy.
You can buy long strips of velcro that have different colors of glue on one side and another on the other.Cut the strips to fit your bed, stick strips along the bottom of your mattress, and then stick the opposing strips on the box spring or bed frame so that they line up and hold the mattress in place.Make sure to use hooks and loops opposite of each other in order to keep the velcro from sticking. If you can't find velcro strips, you could try using double-sided carpet tape.
Step 4: A quick fix is to wedge something between the sides of the frame and the mattress.
When the mattress isn't completely snug in the frame, it can slide around. To stop the mattress from sliding, try wedging a towel or other soft material between the bed frame and mattress. This is a good way to temporarily stop sliding, however you will probably have to keep adjusting whatever you wedge in between the mattress and frame, so it is not a great permanent solution.
Step 5: If you can't stop the sliding, change your bed frame.
Look at the bed frame to see if it is large enough for your bed or if the sides are not high enough to hold the mattress in place. If you can't stop the mattress from sliding around with another method, get a new bed frame.A bed frame that has a footboard can help reduce sliding as well.
Step 6: It is a last resort to switch out your mattress.
The bottom side of the mattress is more prone to sliding because it has 2 sides that are the same. You should buy a mattress that has one side for sleeping and the other for lying down. The built bottom-up design of 1-sided mattresses makes them more comfortable than 2-sided ones.
Step 7: Place a tight-fitting sheet over the mattress.
If your sheets are loose, your mattress topper is more likely to slide.Put the tightest-fitting bottom sheet you can find on the bed to secure it.
Step 8: To hold the sheet in place, use sheet suspenders or straps.
The corners of the fitted sheet should be clipped with the sheet straps.Attach the straps to the opposite corners under the mattress.Underneath the mattress, the suspenders should look like an X.
Step 9: If you want a cheaper option, pin the topper in place with safety pins.
The mattress should have at least 5 safety pins on it.The pressure will be distributed and held in place more securely.Safety pins can be used to hold the fitted bottom sheet in place.
Step 10: If the topper still slips, use spray or duct tape to hold it in place.
Attach the corners and edges to the mattress with duct tape, or spray glue over the entire backside of the toppers. It's important to use a tight-fitting sheet as well.If you ever want to rip off the top of the mattress, be aware that there will be some left on it.If duct tape is left on for a long time, it can leave a mark on the mattress.
Step 11: Beneath the bed frame, place an area rug.
The area rug is slightly bigger than the bed covers.Put the rug on the floor and then move the bed back on top of it.The bed frame will have more traction if the rug is plush.
Step 12: If you don't want a rug, put furniture feet on the bottoms of each leg.
Get furniture feet that are big enough to fit on the bottom of your bed frame.Stick the furniture feet on when you lift the bed a corner at a time. Most furniture stores and home improvement centers have furniture feet.
Step 13: For homemade furniture feet, slip pieces of rubber shelf liner under the legs.
There are pieces of shelf liner that are slightly bigger than the legs of the frame.Put the bed frame up at each corner and slide the rubber liner underneath. The kind of rubber liner used to line cabinets is what you want to get.
