There are many ways to change boots.If you have trouble breaking them in or they don't fit in certain areas of your foot or calf, any of these methods will work.If you use stretching liquids and shoe stretchers, it is possible to stretch a full size or more.Synthetic materials may require several repetition of the stretching method.
Step 1: You can learn how to use this method.
You shouldn't expect a full-size change because this is an easy and effective method for small to medium adjustments.You will need a shoe stretching liquid and a boot stretcher.The water will expand when it's frozen.It has nothing to do with the boots getting wet.
Step 2: The bags should be partially filled with water.
Roughly 1/3 full of water is what you need to fill two bags.The air should be squeezed out as much as possible.There is a bag that will fit into the part of the boot that needs stretching.A quart bag works for most toe and heel related adjustments, while a gallon bag is needed to stretch the calf of the boot.Seal most of the way and leave a small gap.The plastic in the bag is nearly flat if you press the part of it containing air.It is possible that bags not labeled for freezer use will break and leak water onto your boots.
Step 3: The bags should be pushed into the area you want to stretch.
Put the water in one of the boots.If you want to stretch the toe, tilt the boot forward and push the bag as far as you can.Stuffing the toe of the bag with newspapers will keep it from slipping if you need to stretch the calf.
Step 4: The boots should be left in the freezer.
Leave your boots in an icebox for 12 hours.Water expands when it is cold, pushing the boot out from the inside.If the bag slips out of the toe when you move the boots, prop them up on a block of wood or something else that will keep them stable.
Step 5: Wait for 20 minutes or more.
Wait for the ice to melt and remove the boots from the freezer.The temperature affects how long this takes.Don't try to remove the bags right away, as you could damage the boots trying to pull them out.
Step 6: Try on the boots by removing the bags.
You should see a difference in the stretched area.If the boot starts to shrink back, you can repeat this method to stretch it out further.If your boots are made of rubber, they won't stretch much since the material has a lot of give.
Step 7: Pick a shoe that stretches liquid.
If you don't want to buy a specialized stretching fluid, you can mix rubbing alcohol and water.This will increase the speed of breaking it in by walking or combining with boot stretchers to make more extreme changes.Synthetic boots will work with leather stretching liquids.If you read the label carefully, you will see that some are specialized for patent leather.Special instructions can be found on the label.Follow the instructions of the product.Dilute the rubbing alcohol with equal parts water to avoid abrading the boot's material.
Step 8: A work surface needs to be prepared.
Black and white newspapers can be laid down to catch spills and drips.The ink can transfer onto the boots, so don't use colored newspapers.
Step 9: Take a small area and test it.
Pick a spot on one of the boots that won't be noticed.Wait for the liquid to dry before applying a small amount.If it leaves a stain, try a different method.If it's the same material as the outside of the boot, test the inside lip.If possible, look for stains under both natural and artificial light.
Step 10: Rub or spray the area.
If the synthetic material is wet, apply stretching liquid to the area you want to be stretched in.The spray should be about 5 inches away from the boots.The liquid can be applied to the inside or outside of the shoe.It should be able to stretch either way.If the liquid runs off the shoe, stop and wipe it off.
Step 11: Put on some thick socks.
You can stretch out the shoe by making your feet bulkier.Only one pair of socks is fine if the shoes are not abrasive.Use two pairs of socks for stretching.
Step 12: While they're wet and flexible, walk around in the boots.
Wear them the rest of the day and walk around as much as possible to maximize stretching.Don't wear boots that are causing you pain.Go to the next step.
Step 13: If they need a lot of stretching, use a boot stretcher.
You can only achieve so much by wearing thick socks.If the boots are too tight, buy a boot stretcher and use it to stretch the boot overnight.The general size of the foot area is increased by "two-way" varieties, which are specialized for toe, instep, or calf stretching.Put the boot stretcher in the shoe.The object should be pushed to the end of the boot.Place the calf stretcher in the ankle shaft of the boot.The stretcher's handle should be turned a couple of times until you can see the tight area.It shouldn't be too tight.The stretcher should be left in for 48 hours.A small adjustment can be made.A full-size difference takes a day or two.
Step 14: The stretcher should be selected.
If you want to expand the boot in the wrong places, pick one that is designed to stretch the area you need.Stretching with shoe stretching liquid is an excellent way to achieve significant stretching.The foot's length and width can be stretched with a two-way stretcher.A stretcher lifts the toe portion.A stretcher lifts the foot portion.The shaft of the boot will be widened if a calf stretcher is used.The termboot stretcher can be used to refer to this variety or any long-handled shoe stretcher, so the packaging needs to be careful.To compare to stretchers, bring your boot into the shop.The fit doesn't need to be perfect because Stretchers apply to a range of sizes.
Step 15: The shoes should be prepared with shoe stretching fluid.
If you apply shoe stretching liquid first, the boots will gain a lot of flexibility.If you don't want to buy a shoe stretching fluid, mix your own stretching liquid with rubbing alcohol and water in equal amounts.Make sure the liquid you use is suitable for your boot material, then apply it on the tight areas until the shoe is wet.Continue to the next step.
Step 16: Each stretcher should be put into a boot.
Before putting it in the boot, use the knob to adjust it to a snug fit.You'll need to use a stretcher with a longer handle if the handle is swallowed up by the ankle.
Step 17: The stretcher should be expanded by turning the handle.
Make the wedge wider by rotating the handle.The boot should expand slightly in the area the stretcher is designed to affect.The amount should be judged by looking for a slight expansion and a tight feeling.
Step 18: Wait a second.
You should leave the stretcher in for at least 48 hours.After 8 hours of waiting, you should test the boots for looseness.If you test the boots and they are still tight, you can either put the stretchers back in or apply more shoe stretching liquid.Stuff the boots with newspaper if you don't wear them.
Step 19: You should be aware of the risks.
Too much heat can damage boots, so never hold the hairdryer against them or heat them too long.The method is good for making your boot more comfortable, but can't stretch it to a new size.
Step 20: Wear thick socks.
It will allow for more stretch if you put on two pairs of socks.Don't worry about hurting your feet, you will not need to wear the boots for long.
Step 21: The hairdryer needs to be turned on.
The area of the boot that needs stretching is where the hair dryer should be.Hold it close to the boot and turn it on for a few seconds.You can stretch your toes by moving your foot around inside the boot.
Step 22: They should be worn until they cool down.
Walk until the boots are no longer hot from the hairdryer.If it's painful to walk in the boots, remain seated and stretch them by flexing your toes and foot.
Step 23: If needed, repeat the test with normal socks.
If the boots aren't stretched enough, walk again.
Step 24: You can apply leather conditioning cream.
If you use this method on leather boots, make sure to apply a leather conditioner after use.There's no need to protect synthetic material.
Step 25: Don't get your boots wet.
Someone told you to soak your boot to wear it faster.The material may shrink as it dries, even if this works.Use freezer safe bags and make sure the seal is tight when stretching your boots with ice.
Step 26: Do not expose your boots to high temperatures.
The material can be weakened.If the boots get wet, let them dry naturally rather than putting them in front of a fire to shrink them.It's a good idea to use moderation when stretching your boots.
Step 27: Don't put your feet in a boot.
If walking in the boot causes you pain, you need a stronger and safer method.Break in your boots and take a break.Try stretching it with ice or a shoe stretcher.
