At any time, you can swap out your phone for a new one.You can use the online tool to switch phones with someone else on your family plan.If you get a new phone from a previous customer, you can usually insert your old sim into the new one for easy activation.You can learn how to swap your old phone for a new one.
Step 1: You need to sign in.
Click on the top-right corner of the page if you haven't already done so.Click if you want to enter your user ID and password.You need to be the owner of the account or a designated account manager to do a phone swap.If you don't own the account, the owner can give you an account manager on the Account Manager page.Both phone owners should be in the same room during the swap process, since it's not necessary for them to sign in.The swap to work requires both phones to be powered down at the same time.
Step 2: You can click on the Devices tab.
It's in the middle of the page between "Plan" and "Shop."A menu will be expanded.
Step 3: Click to switch device.
It is near the top of the menu.
Step 4: Click swap numbers when scrolling down.
It is on the right side of the page.There are all active phones on the account.
Step 5: Click next if you want to swap phones.
There are boxes above the two phones you want to exchange.
Step 6: If prompted, select an equipment protection plan.
If the equipment protection plan on your current phone isn't compatible with your new phone, you'll have to choose a new plan.Click to make the change after selecting the desired plan.
Step 7: If prompted, choose a new data plan.
You'll be prompted to choose a new plan if the data plan on the phone isn't compatible with your current plan.Click if you want to add a new plan.
Step 8: Click to confirm the changes you've made.
You can see the details of the changes for both phones if you selected a new data or equipment protection plan.Clicking confirms that you are okay with the changes.
Step 9: Put your phone down.
Both phones should be used so you don't lose valuable data.The website will show you a method for backing up your contacts and media.Click at the bottom-right corner to follow the on-screen instructions to back up your data.If your old phone was an Apple device, you should turn it off before you start using it.You may not be able to receive texts from iPhone users if you don't.To do this, open your phone's settings, tap and then slide the "iMessage" switch to the off position.
Step 10: Both phones should be turned off.
The phones have to be powered down before the swap can be completed.It's possible to reassign phone numbers.You have to be sure you want to swap phones before you continue.
Step 11: Once both phones are off, click the red swap devices button.
It is at the bottom of the page.There will be a message.
Step 12: Click Yes to confirm the swap.
The phone number associated with each phone will be changed.
Step 13: You have a new phone.
You, the account manager or owner, can power on your phone now that the phone numbers have been switched.Once you've activated your phone, the new owner will turn on their phone.Turn on your phone.There is a setup assistant on the screen.To get your phone activated, follow the on-screen instructions.To test the data connection, open the phone's web browser and dial #832 to confirm voice activation.If either of these tests fail, you can call for assistance.When the phone is activated, the owner of your old phone can power it on and follow the same steps.
Step 14: Obtain a phone that works on the other network.
The most reliable way to get a phone is to buy it directly from Verizon, although you can use any phone that's compatible with the carrier, as long as it isn't active on another account or banned from activation.To make sure your phone is compatible, visit www.verizon.com and bring your own device.If you are doing a swap with a friend or someone else who has their own account, make sure they have their phone turned off in their account settings so you don't run into any issues.
Step 15: It's a good idea to back up the data on your old phone.
You should back up your data if you haven't done so already.You can use any backup method you like.If your old phone was an Apple device, you need to turn off iMessage.If you don't, you might not get text messages.Open your phone's settings, tap, and then slide the "iMessage" switch to the off position.
Step 16: Both phones should be turned off.
It's important to make sure your phone number is transferred to the new phone.
Step 17: If necessary, insert your old phone's sim card into your new phone.
If you ordered a new phone that came with a sim card, you should put it in the new one.You can learn how to remove and install sim cards in various phone models.If your old sim doesn't fit into the new phone, you can order the correct card from the Request Sim Card page.
Step 18: The new phone needs to be turned on.
There will be an on-screen setup assistant.
Step 19: To use the new phone, follow the instructions on the screen.
