How To Switch Verizon Phones

You can change your phone number online at your MyVerizon page.Before you begin this process, the phones must be active and on the same plan.

Step 1: You have to sign into your account.

There is a sign in box at the top of the page.You can type in your mobile number or user ID into the sign in box, then click the "sign in" button.Click the "continue" button when prompted to enter your password.You should be directed to your home page.

Step 2: You can go to the "Activate or switch device" page.

The "Manage My Device" heading can be found in the left panel.Click on the "Activate or switch device" link beneath the heading.This will take you to the "Activate or switch device" page.If you are an account owner or account manager, you can only do this.Only those under the same plan will appear on this page.You can't switch active devices with someone else.If you want to switch your current device with a replacement currently covered by another plan, you need to deactivated it first.The replacement device can be activated the same way as a new device.

Step 3: The first device should be selected.

Click on the first device you want to switch on.Click on "Next" to proceed.The two devices you want to switch between can be highlighted.The order does not matter.Before clicking the "Next" button, make sure the correct bubble is filled in.You will be directed to the "Select an option below" page after clicking "Next".

Step 4: You can choose the "switch device" option.

Click on the "select an option below" page to see the selection bubble.Don't click on the "Next" button just yet."Activate device" is the other option on the page.If you want to switch from one phone to another on the same plan, this option should not be selected.

Step 5: You can choose the second device.

You should see the words "select the phone number you want to switch with" under the "switch device" option.Select the phone number you want to swap from the drop-down box beneath the line.The phone model and image should be on the screen when you select the phone number.Hit the "Next" button if you have confirmed that this is the correct choice.

Step 6: The confirmation code can be sent to your phone.

You will be asked to send an online authorization code to one of your mobile devices.Click on the "Text me the code" button to select the device you want to use.This step is done for security reasons.You will not be able to finish the process if you don't have the authorization code.Under your options, you should see all the devices listed on your plan.You will get a free text message with the authorization code if you choose the device.The "Text me the code" button should take you to the "Customer Verification" page.The code should be sent to your device at the same time.

Step 7: You should check your device.

You should get the verification code by text.Check the other devices on your plan if you don't get the text.Once you have the code, you can move onto the next step.If you don't receive the code, go back to your computer and click on the question.There is a link on the "Customer Verification" page.If you follow the instructions on the screen, you can contact customer support.

Step 8: The code needs to be entered.

Return to your computer and type your online authorization code in the box.You need to type the same code into the "Confirm Online Authorization Code" box.Click on the "Confirm" button after typing the code into the appropriate places.

Step 9: If you wish, back up your contacts.

The option to back up your contact list will be given to you.Do you want to back up your contacts digitally?Continue if not.The method recommended for your device will back up your contacts.Click on the "view back up instructions for your current phone" link if you don't know how to back it up.You should back up your contacts for both devices involved in the switch.Click the "Next" button if this has been completed.

Step 10: You should update your plans.

You will be prompted to update your plan if one of your devices is not compatible with it.You should be able to see the minimum plan that you can choose from.Click on the "Next" button to review the details, including the cost of the new plan.You will need to manually switch the cards if you have a compatible device.The "Next" button is no longer needed, you need to click the "Transfer Sim"button.

Step 11: It's a good idea to switch sim cards.

You should be directed to the transfer sim cards page.Before continuing, follow the instructions on the screen.The exact process may vary based on your device, but the steps will usually follow the same pattern: turn off both devices and remove the back covers.Look for the sim cards.They should be in the lower left corner of their phones.Remove the sim card from the device.You can put the sim card into the empty slot on the other device.The contact surface needs to face down as you do this.The process can be completed if the back cover on each phone is replaced.

Step 12: The switch needs to be confirmed.

Clicking on the "Confirm Changes" button at the bottom of the final screen will confirm the changes.You should switch the phone numbers on your two phones after this.If you want to check the results, you have to call both phones from a separate line.If you backed up your contacts before the switch, you may need to restore them afterwards.
