How To Take Care of a Guitar

You just got a guitar you've been eyeing for a long time, but have no idea how to care for it.Here are a few tips to keep the guitar in tip top shape.

Step 1: Don't forget to treat your guitar with care.

If you owned guitars, how would you treat them at the store? When you aren't playing it or doing maintenance on it, never lay it down on the ground. The best place to keep your guitar is inside it's own fitted case. You can either put it in a hard case or a gig bag and hang it from a wall or stand it on a floor stand. If you have an electric guitar, loosen the strings a bit so you can get rid of the dust around the pickups.Remove the dust from the bridge if you have an acoustic. To get a cloth underneath, you don't need to loosen them a lot.If there is a screw you can tighten, make sure the hardware is loose.

Step 2: If you're going to ever take it out of the house, you should check the prices at your local guitar store.

There is a hard shell in guitar cases.

Step 3: It is not as hard to string a guitar as you might think.

Make sure you have the correct strings for your guitar, you can also mix and match different materials for electrics. It doesn't matter where you start, it's easier to start with high E.

Step 4: It's a nice thing to have a string winder, it makes the process of winding string much simpler.

In case of accidental string breaks on stage, it is recommended that you use it.The machine head has a string at it.When the string is so loose you can remove it from the machine with your hands. You can see how the string is fastened at the bridge.

Step 5: The string will go out of tune more often and easily if you don't have a few wraps around the peg.

Step 6: Guitars can be made in several different ways.

If you have a Floyd Rose system, you don't need a tool to loosen the strings on most electrics. If you bought a new guitar, you should have received a tool for this.

Step 7: You can either go to your local guitar store or look on the internet for spare parts.

Replacing a pickguard or volume knobs is something almost everyone could do with their guitar.

Step 8: If you are an artist, you can either paint your guitar or put on some stickers.

Do not paint an acoustic guitar as it can reduce the sound. If you want to mess up the sound coming from it, don't try to change it.
