It can take six to eight weeks for a lip piercing to heal. Before you get a piercing, you need to make sure that the piercing parlor is clean and sterile. It's healing and you need to take good care of it by washing it regularly and using antiseptics. You need to keep the area clean and watch for signs of infections.
Step 1: There is a good parlor to find.
You should look for things that indicate the parlor is a good one.Always check out the place for yourself, even if you can ask for recommendations from friends. It's a good idea to go in a day or two before you need to ask questions. The studio should be clean. If they use a type of cleaning unit and if they have new needles and gloves for each person. There might be a separate area for piercing and tattooing.Check to see if they have a gun.Guns are not safe because they can't be washed.Talk to the piercers. How long have they been piercing?Check to see if they use jewelry made from materials such as gold, titanium, or niobium.
Step 2: The piercer is on.
The piercer will walk you through the steps as they clean and prepare to pierce you.The piercer needs to wash their hands. They should show you that the instruments are either one-time use or have been through an autoclave. They should shave your lip with a one-time razor if you need it.Walk out if you don't feel comfortable with their hygiene.Pay attention to what the piercer is saying.Your piercer will give you information on what to do after your procedure. It's a requirement that piercers give this information.Don't be afraid to ask questions. You have a right to ask.
Step 3: It's a good idea to rinse the piercing.
While they are healing, oral piercings need to be washed. After every meal and before you go to bed, you should rinse your piercing four to five times a day.You can use either a salt solution or alcohol-free rinse.A cup of warm water is needed to make the salt solution. For fifteen to thirty seconds, just rinse your mouth with a solution near your piercing.
Step 4: The outer area should be treated at least twice a day.
It's important to pay attention to the outside, too, as you need to rinse the inner area. You can use antibacterial soap to wash it off.Once it's clean, you can use an antibacterial spray on it.Liquid antibacterial soap can be applied to the area using a cotton swab.If that makes it easier, you can add a bit of soap to it.Get it thoroughly wet by rubbing it all around the piercing.Rub off any dried bits. You can turn the piercing when it's wet.Put the soap in a container.Don't use hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, or antibiotics.
Step 5: You can use an oral rinse.
An oral rinse is needed to keep the area clean. You apply drops to the piercing. If it foams up, spit it out.Peroxyl and Gly-oxide are some brands you can use. They can be bought at a piercing parlor or a drug store. This routine should be done twice a day.
Step 6: Before touching the piercing, clean your hands.
If you are going to clean or touch your piercing, your hands need to be free of harmful organisms. They should be washed for twenty seconds and scrubbed with soap and water.Dry on a towel.
Step 7: It's a good idea to reduce the number ofbacteria in your mouth.
It's important to take care of your mouth and teeth while your piercing is healing.Make sure you brush twice a day and floss once daily.Reducing the amount ofbacteria your piercing is exposed to will help.
Step 8: Don't kiss.
Newbacteria are introduced to your mouth when you kiss. You should not kiss while your lip is healing. It's a good idea to avoid giving oral sex while your lip heals.
Step 9: Don't swim.
bacteria can be found in any kind of body of water.Don't go to these areas while your piercing is healing. It's important that you don't introduce extrabacteria to the area as that could lead to an infection.
Step 10: If you have a piercing implemation, treat it.
While the piercing is healing, you may get a "pimple" near or in it.Most of the time, you can treat these at home if you notice signs of an illness, but you should see a doctor if it's particularly swollen.A saltwater rinse can be used on the area. It's best to keep it up for two weeks.Antihistamines may help.
Step 11: There are signs of infection.
If you don't let it go, it can be a serious medical issue. There are signs of an infection that include swelling, redness, and pain.Red streaks going out away from the piercing is a problem as it means the infection is spreading quickly. If you see a lot of discharge, watch for thick discharge. It will smell bad.If your infection gets worse, you may experience a high temperature, sweating, and/or chills. You may experience nausea, vomit, or become confused.
Step 12: You should see a doctor.
You should go to the doctor if you notice signs of an illness. You will be helped by a doctor. You may need prescription antibiotics to fight the infection.Don't take out your piercing if you suspect an illness. It may be necessary for you to leave it in.
