There are many species of spiders that can be found around the world.If the species is native to your area, you can find them under bark and rocks.Provide a spider cage with hiding spots and a heating lamp.To keep your spider happy and healthy, you will need to provide live insects every couple of days and mist the cage to keep it humid.
Step 1: The terrarium should be at least 2 feet (0.61 m) in length.
The spiders can climb glass.A small opening at the top is what you want.You can see when your spider is at the bottom by opening the top.Pick a tank that has a screen on it.The spider needs fresh air.If you want to make a tall one, don't turn a long terrarium on end.It will be easier for the spider to escape if it is on the side.You should aim for a tank that's 2.5 to 5 gallons.
Step 2: Sand can be added to the bottom of the terrarium.
Sand is similar to the huntsman spider's natural habitat, so it will work for your spider.Spread it out as you go, pouring it in a thick layer across the bottom.The sand needs to be washed several times.After putting it in the cage, lay it out in a single layer to dry.
Step 3: There is a slab of cork bark against the glass.
The spiders like to hide under bark.You'll be able to see the spider between the glass and the cork if you hide it.Online or in pet stores, you can find this cork.Stores that stock items for aquariums sell it.There are enrichment items for your spider.Put rocks, bark, and dried leaves in the bottom of the cage because these spiders like hiding under things.Adding twigs or a larger piece of wood is possible.These items can be found in your backyard.
Step 4: The spider can be set in a warm area or in the tank.
They like warm environments.To keep them warm, place a heat lamp above their cage, but use the kind that doesn't give light.To make sure you don't make it too warm for your spider, you need to measure the temperature in the cage.Anything from 75 to 85 F is fine.
Step 5: It is a good idea to mist your spider's environment on a daily basis.
The huntsman spider likes humid environments.Light mist of water can be sprayed over the inside of the cage.A couple of squirts is enough, but don't spray your spider as you may frighten it.There is water at the bottom of the sand.The water will be absorbed by the sand and released into the cage.
Step 6: Feed your spider live insects.
Provide live insects.If you want your spider to catch or lay an insect in the cage, you'll need a pair of feeding tongs.Most pet stores have live crickets and other insects.They are also fond of roaches.If you haven't treated the area with pesticides, you can catch insects around your house.Your spider is likely not hungry if it doesn't eat what's in the cage.If you can't get it out after 8 hours, try again the next day.The spider won't build a web.It chases down its prey and eats it.
Step 7: At night, watch for a spider.
When the sun goes down, you're more likely to see a spider moving around.It's a good idea to turn off the lights at night so your spider doesn't get lost.
Step 8: Expect your spider to change shape.
Don't worry if you see a second spider in your terrarium.The spider has gotten bigger by leaving its skin behind.It's a natural process for a spider.Don't feed your spider if it starts to change shape.Allow it to get through the process first.
Step 9: Do not handle the spider.
If threatened, this spider will bite.Some people are not affected by the venom, but others can have an allergic reaction.Let the spider live out its life in peace, because it's best not to handle it at all.If you get a bite, ice the area.Seek medical attention if the bite appears to be expanding or if it looks red.
Step 10: For up to 2 years, care for your spider.
A huntsman spider can live for a long time, so don't think it will only live a short time.You can let it go outside if it is a native species in your area.If you have a particular species of spider, make sure it is native to your area.
