The Turkish Angora loves to be with their family. If they think you are not paying enough attention to them, they have a mischievous streak. To care for your Turkish Angora, groom them often, look after their health, and provide lots of activity and entertainment.
Step 1: You should brush your cat every day.
Turkish Angoras have long, silky coats. The coat does not have an undercoat so it won't get matted. You should brush the coat every day or two to keep it looking good.Use a long-toothed metal brush to clean your cat's coat. There are brushes at pet stores.
Step 2: Cut your cat's nails.
You should trim your cat's nails at least once a month. You can either trim the nails yourself or take your cat to the vet.Make your cat comfortable in your lap so that you can trim the nails yourself.Place your hand around the cat's body.Take a paw out of your hand.Press the paw to get the claws out.You can trim the nails with your free hand. The pink living part of the nail should not be cut.The white part of the nail needs to be trimmed. If you're not comfortable cutting your own nails, ask your vet tech to show you how to trim them.
Step 3: The ears need to be cleaned.
You should clean your cat's ears every couple weeks. This removes dirt and build up.Cats can sometimes clean their own ears, but not all of them.If your cat's ears need cleaning, you should check them.To clean the ears, use a damp cotton ball or cloth.Clean ears will be pink and odorless if you rub the inside of the ear flap with a cotton ball.Dirty ears have dirt on them. They may have a foul smell. If the ear has a foul odor or a lot of discharge, make an appointment with your vet, as this may be part of a larger medical problem.
Step 4: You should brush your cat's teeth.
Cats can develop periodontal disease if they don't take care of their teeth. It is possible to prevent gum disease by brushing their teeth. They need to brush their teeth with a toothbrush and cat toothpaste.Don't use human toothpaste on a cat.The substance is poisonous. You will have to teach your cat how to use toothpaste.Allow your cat to sample the toothpaste.Let the cat lick it if you put a small amount on your finger.Move your finger along the gum line after your cat gets used to toothpaste.Rub a toothbrush with toothpaste on it after they are used to it.The cat will let you brush all of the teeth if you work on one tooth at a time.
Step 5: Feed your cat food.
Turkish Angoras have a delicate bone structure, so make sure they don't get obese.Feed your cat a meat-based diet. There is an ingredient list on the label. The top two or three ingredients should be meat.Don't give your cat food that has less than 40% of its weight in meat.Turkish Angoras should be weighed once a month.Cut back on your cat's food if they start gaining weight. To make sure the cat food is quality, look for the AAFCO certification. The vet can suggest high-quality cat food.
Step 6: Take your cat to the doctor.
Turkish Angoras can have heart and hearing problems.Take your cat to the vet to make sure they stay healthy. They should be taken at least once a year.Every year you should get your cat all their vaccinations. After adoption, your cat should receive vaccine courses. They will need an annual vaccine.
Step 7: Spay or neuter your cat.
If you don't plan on breeding your cat, you should have them neutered as soon as possible. At around five to six months of age, you can desex your cat.Spaying or neutering can help reduce negative behaviors, like spray marking, and also reduce the risk of mammary tumors and uterine infections in unspayed female cats.
Step 8: There may be hearing problems.
Turkish Angoras may have hearing problems. If your cat is white with two blue eyes, they may have complete deafness in their ears.Turkish Angoras only use hearing in one ear if they have only one blue eye.
Step 9: It's important to monitor for heart problems.
Turkish Angoras are prone to have cardiomyopathy. This is a common type of heart disease that cats have. You should take your cat to the vet.Turkish Angoras that have HCM will not be bred byReputable breeders.Don't trust a breeder who will tell you that the cat is from a HCM-free line.
Step 10: There are a lot of places to climb.
Turkish Angoras love to play. They can climb on tall cabinets. You should give your cat plenty of space because of this.Place cat trees, cat shelves, and other vertical furniture in your house. You can place perches high for your Turkish Angora to lay down and watch.Cat shelves that lead to a shelf over a door or window will be ideal.
Step 11: It's a good idea to interact with your cat a lot.
Turkish Angoras are very social. They like to be in the middle of activity with their family. It's important to spend time with your cat.The breed doesn't do well if they spend a lot of time alone. They will get into trouble if you don't pay attention. This is not an affectionate cat.The cat does well with people of all ages.Turkish Angoras are not known to be lap cats, and most only like being held in limited amounts. They like to be near you in the same room.
Step 12: You should give your cat a lot of toys.
Turkish Angoras love toys.Make sure your cat gets enough physical activity to keep them occupied and prevent them from getting bored.Giving them toys can help. This breed likes to pounce on toys.Give your cat toys to play with. You can have your Turkish Angora chase a laser pointer by tossing a soft ball or piece of paper.Provide your cat with a scratching post.
